☘️Lucky☘️ in the Library!

March is a CRAZY month in Libraryland, so thank you for your patience as we are busy with LOTS of things that are interrupting the normal schedule. We will not have normal classes this month until March 25th-29th, BUT please remember that my library volunteers will often be here even when I am not, providing open circulation from about 1:30-2:45 daily, and from 9-11 am on Friday mornings.

Teachers As Readers Book Club:

Thanks to the teachers who have joined us for Season 2 of book club! We are excited to read Beyond Innocence: The Life Sentence of Darryl Hunt by Phoebe Zerwick this month. If you can't join us for the club, but are interested in reading along, below are the book titles and additional info. Anyone who wants to join us, but didn't get a copy of the books, you are ALWAYS welcome! Some of these books are available through the public library or apps like Libby and Hoopla, so you can get the eBook or audiobook and still join in the fun! Just let me know if you want to be added to our book club app/group so you get info about upcoming meetings. You can follow along and view the state Zoom meetings/book talks each month on YouTube if you’re not able to join their discussions live. Check out the website for more info!

Battle of the Books Updates

Battle of the Books...

Our Battle of the Books team is going to be attending the middle school Battle of the Books competition on Friday, March 15th. We will have our elementary competition on Friday, March 22nd. Both events will take place at East Carteret High School. Permission slips have gone home, and I need them ALL returned ASAP, so please send them my way if they bring any in!

Please remind your BOB team students to stay after on Thursdays. I try to send weekly reminders as well, but several kids have forgotten. Competition will be here before we know it!

Remaining Practice Dates:

  • 3/7/24

  • 3/14/24

  • 3/21/24

Here is the book list. It is recommended that they read each book at least once, preferably more than once, to ensure the information "sticks", so getting an early start is a HUGE benefit! You can also send them down to me if they have questions. Parents can also reach out to me or Ms. Rhodes via ClassDojo with questions.

School News Team

Our news team is up and running! Please help your students remember to arrive on time. Latecomers do not get their preferred jobs, and it delays production, so we appreciate everyone on news team getting to the newsroom at 7:30.

Be sure to follow our NES News Team channel for the latest news episodes. We also post the most recent episodes on our school website.

The News Team Schedule for March is below:

March 4-8: Team 8

March 11-15: Team 1

March 18-22: Team 2

March 25-29: Team 3

Scholastic Book Fair is here!

Book fair previews are on March 6th-7th, and then the book fair will officially open on Friday, March 8th and run through Thursday, March 14th. (Since I will be at Battle of the Books on March 15th, the Book Fair will not be open that day.)

Family Night will be on Tuesday, March 12th from 3-7pm, and the book fair will be located in the LIBRARY as we have done in the past, not the activity room like we had in the fall. Check out the book fair website for eWallet info and more!

Accessing Books from the NC Kids Digital Library | Scribe

EVERY student in Carteret County Public Schools has access to this resource. I am showing an example of researching famous people for biographies, but you could also remind your students that this is a tool for them to access eBook versions of popular library books when the physical library books are already checked out.

Reminder--This is a Google Classroom created to house the resources Mr. Daniels and I share with you throughout the year so you don't have to go digging through emails to find them. All teachers should have access. Enjoy!

Hey, podcast people! Check this out!

To foster interaction with other librarians and educators around the world, I have recently started my own podcast, and I'm working to share things related to books, libraries, and education on a sort-of-weekly basis. I generally release new episodes on Monday evenings, and sometimes include interviews with special guests. If you enjoy podcasts, or know a librarian or book lover who might enjoy this, please take a listen and feel free to share!
