Black Hawk Bulletin
September 1-5, 2025

October 27-31 2025
A Note from the Principal,
Dear Black Hawk Parents,
We’re looking forward to an exciting week at ROMS as our Volleyball and Football teams make school history! For the first time ever, our athletes will compete against the teams from Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School. This marks a special moment for Red Oak ISD, and we’re proud to see our students represent our community with teamwork, determination, and Hawk pride.
Your support means so much to our athletes and helps make these milestones even more memorable. The 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball teams will compete at 5:30PM in the ROMS Gym on Monday, October 27th. The 7th Grade Football teams will compete at 5:30PM at Goodloe Stadium on Monday, October 27th. Lastly, the 8th Grade Football teams will compete at 5:30PM at Goodloe Stadium on Tuesday, October 28th. We will have separate student sections for ROMS and JSMS at Goodloe Stadium for the football games. We encourage all families to come out and cheer on our students as they take the court and the field.
Warm Regards,
Christopher Thompson
Red Ribbon Week!
Life is a Pizzle - Solve it Drug Free
The National Family Partnership (NFP), founded in 1980, began with a small group of parents committed to promoting drug prevention education and awareness. Today, NFP continues to lead the nation in supporting families and communities as they work together to help young people make safe, healthy, and drug-free choices.
Since launching the first National Red Ribbon Celebration in 1988, NFP has inspired millions across the country to take a stand for drug prevention. Each year, schools and communities unite during Red Ribbon Week to spread awareness and encourage a lifelong commitment to living drug-free.
This year, Red Oak ISD proudly joins the celebration under the theme, “Life is a Puzzle – Solve It Drug Free.” Students can show their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle by participating in themed dress-up days throughout the week:
Monday, Oct. 27: Red Out – Wear red to say no to drugs.
Tuesday, Oct. 28: Peace Out to Drugs – Wear tie-dye or hippie attire.
Wednesday, Oct. 29: Drug-Free Season – Wear camo.
Thursday, Oct. 30: Team Up Against Drugs – Wear your favorite jersey or team shirt.
Friday, Oct. 31: Character Dress-Up Day – Dress as your favorite storybook character.

ROISD Canvas Parent Account
ROISD uses the Canvas Learning Management system as an online tool for teachers and students to communicate, post information, create and submit assignments, and much more for grades 3-12. Parents can create an "Observer" account to view what is happening in their child's Canvas courses. Please note Skyward is the official gradebook for a cumulative class average. Although Canvas does allow for assignments with grades, students are also completing work in class in a variety of modes that contribute to the overall student class average in Skyward.
https://secure.smore.com/n/pguzr
Observers Can:
- Set up notification preferences (due dates, when an assignment is late and/or graded, etc.)
- View dashboard, campus and course announcements, assignments, quizzes, etc. once items are published by the instructor
- View files (unless they are locked by instructor)
- View and filter your student's grades, scores and dates*
- View course content and see due dates, point values, rubrics, etc.
*Skyward is the official gradebook as other work is taking place to account for a student's overall class average.
Observers Cannot:
- View work by students other than their own
- Comment on announcements or discussions
- Submit assignments or quizzes
- View course rosters
- View locked or unpublished content
- Join groups
