SkillsUSA District Officers Visit D.C. SkillsUSA District Officers Visit D.C.

Wylie ISD recently sent 7 SkillsUSA District 5 officers; Mackenzie Bryant, Aayushi Hansalia, Reid Waters, Tufe Uslu, Tabria Williams, Alyssa Gonzalez and Hannah Mobley, to Washington DC for 7 days to participate in the Washington Leadership Training Institute (WLTI). While in our nation’s capital they underwent rigorous training that focused on advocation for themselves, Skills USA and CTE as a whole alongside officers from schools across the nation. The culmination of this trip was meetings with House Representative Keith Self, who serves Wylie, and with Senator Ted Cruz’s staff. During these meeting the students advocated for continued funding for the Perkins Act, which gives $1.4 billion annually to CTE programs across the nation. While in Washington DC they also had the opportunity to tour the Capital and see some of the amazing sites there including the Capital Building, White House, Supreme Court, Gettysburg and more. These students represented our District, State and Skills USA with dignity and grace.

Wylie ISD Announces 2024 National Merit Commended Students

Wylie ISD is proud to announce and recognize the 25 high school seniors who have been named a National Merit Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) competition.

Students are entered into the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which typically occurs in the fall of their junior year. The preliminary test serves as an initial screen of program entrants, and the PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores determine the 50,000 high-scoring participants who qualify for program recognition. Of those 50,000 students, approximately 34,000 are named commended students.

To see the list of recognized students and read the full story, please visit our website.

Congratulations to our 2024 National merit sommended students.

WHS Recognized for 2023 AP Honor Roll

Wylie High School has earned a place on the College Board's AP School Honor Roll for the 2022-23 school year! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success.

Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. Students who enter four-year colleges with credit from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success. For those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.

“We know it takes a significant schoolwide effort—dedication from teachers, counselors, administrators, students, and parents—to make AP access a priority,” College Board Senior Vice President Trevor Packer said. “We join you in celebrating this inspiring achievement for your community. Again, congratulations! I'm inspired by your commitment and grateful for the chance to honor your success.”
