Letter Naming Practice at Home
Our goal is 14 or more letters in one minute!
Dear Kindergarten Families,
We have an upcoming kindergarten assessment that measures how quickly and accurately students can name uppercase and lowercase letters.
During the assessment, students will be shown a page of mixed uppercase and lowercase letters. They will begin at the top of the page and move from left to right, naming as many letters as they can in one minute. Our current benchmark is 14 letters named correctly in one minute.
Tomorrow, your child will bring home a baggie containing uppercase and lowercase letters, along with letter-naming practice sheets. Please use these materials to practice identifying and naming letters at home. Please spend 5-10 minutes each day practicing letter names. You can place the letters in rows and have your child move from left to right, naming each letter as quickly and accurately as possible. As your child becomes more comfortable, you can time them for one minute and see how many letters they can name correctly.
Short, consistent practice at home can make a big difference in building your child’s letter recognition and confidence. Thank you for partnering with us and supporting your child’s learning!
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Team
