Surveys:
This year we asked parents and third and fourth grade students to complete a survey. This will serve as our baseline data. We will continue to survey these populations annually to see trends on what we are doing well and what areas we can improve upon. We will identify action steps to maintain our strengths as well as action steps to make improvements in areas we are in need of growth.
Parent Survey Results:
` Identified strengths at Sturgis Elementary:
“I believe this school positively impacts my child’s growth and development.”
“ I believe the school is clean and well maintained.”
“ I believe my child’s learning is a high priority at this school.”
“ I am treated with respect at this school.”
“ I believe my child has every opportunity to be successful at this school.”
Areas for growth at Sturgis Elementary:
“ I regularly receive feedback from school staff on how well my child is learning.”
“ I receive positive phone calls, emails or notes about my child from the school”
Student Survey Results: All third and fourth grade students completed this survey.
Identified strengths at Sturgis Elementary:
“ I believe my teachers care about me.”
“ I feel my family is treated nicely or with respect at my school.”
“ I believe our principals are good leaders.”
Areas of growth at Sturgis Elementary:
“I think my school is clean.”
“I feel students are nice or show respect to each other at my school.”
“I like going to school each day.”
Attendance Matters:
Only 17% of students considered chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade were reading proficiently in the 3rd grade. Compared to 64% of those students with good attendance. Students that are considered chronically absent miss 10% of school days. In a full year this would be 18 or more days absent from school.

✨ Cary Thrall from United Way of the Black Hills Book Stop visited our classroom and brought stories and creativity with her. She read us 'The Bear and the Moon,' and we were transported to a world of wonder. 🌙
🐻 But that wasn't all—we then got our hands busy creating amazing balloon art! 🎈
🎨 The energy in the room was absolutely electric as students twisted, shaped, and imagined their way to some truly impressive creations. A huge thank you to Cary for sharing her passion for reading and art with us. Days like this remind us why community partnerships are so special!
