Meet our 5th Grade Team!

Nikki Chappelle, Jordan Crownover, Katie Eubanks, Jen Nevarez and our two amazing student teachers Marcia del Valle & Ellie Erdahl! We love teaching 5th grade because we get to prepare our students for middle school and watch them gain the confidence to move on from Kinnaman successfully! We also love the HILARIOUS stories that we get to laugh about together on a daily basis. It’s just the best!

Dual Language Opportunity Dual Language Opportunity

Dear Kinnaman Pre-K and Kindergarten families,

Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, Hazeldale is expanding access to their Spanish dual language program by adding two Spanish-English dual language classes.

Hazeldale will be a hub school and will receive interested students that are currently attending preschool or kindergarten at Kinnaman Elementary School. Students from Kinnaman who enroll in the Hazeldale dual language program will receive transportation provided by the district.

This is Phase 3 of the district’s Dual Language expansion plan — increasing access to dual language programs so that all students who wish to participate have access. The mission of dual language education is to honor and develop multilingual, multiliterate and multicultural students through a rigorous, culturally inclusive education while empowering them to become agents of change in a global community.

The vision of the BSD dual language program is that:

● All students attain a high level of bilingualism and biliteracy in two or more languages.

● All students value their bilingualism and biliteracy as positive assets.

● All students meet or exceed grade-level learning targets in all subject areas.

● All students learn to value the diversity of our community’s cultures and gain sociocultural competence.

● All students graduate with the Oregon Seal of Biliteracy and are well prepared to thrive as global citizens.

If you’re interested in learning more about our dual language programs or to apply, please visit our website. Students already enrolled in the dual language program do not need to reapply.

Help Us Clear The Air At School/Ayúdanos a purificar el aire en la escuela

Healthy Air, Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet!

It is easy to fall into the habit of idling in the car line, but are you aware of the costs? Not only is the exhaust harmful to our students, idling vehicles put out even more pollution than moving vehicles. Most people waste between 1-2 tanks of gas every year on idling. Please keep the air around our school clean by committing to turn your key and be idle free, thank you!

¡Gracias!

A NOTE FROM YOUR SCHOOL NURSE ABOUT SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Good attendance is very important for your student’s health and academic success. Absences can add up quickly and missing school can have a big impact on your student’s learning and overall health. Did you know missing just 2 days a month can lead to chronic absenteeism? Unfortunately, students who are chronically absent experience a larger gap in academic achievement in all levels of school and have a higher likelihood of dropping out of school when older.

How Can Parents Positively Impact Their Student’s Attendance?

● Make school attendance a priority

● Encourage your student to get involved in school activities

● Try to schedule medical and dental appointments first thing in the morning or after school to reduce missed time

● Don’t let your child stay home unless truly sick

● Establish bedtime routines which allows your student to get adequate sleep and feel ready for school in the morning

● Try to schedule extended trips during school breaks

● Speak positively about school and the benefits of attending regularly

● If your child has a chronic physical or mental health condition, reach out to the school counselor, teacher or school nurse

● Talk with your student about why they do not want to go to school. If your child seems anxious about school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or ask the school nurse for advice.

Please feel free to reach out to your school nurse, kori_carbonaro@beaverton.k12.or.us, if you have questions or need additional advice.
