Sturgis Elementary Newsletter

School Attendance:

We know there are moments when your student is ill and has to be absent from school, however we ask that you make every attempt to have your student present in school. School attendance and academic performance are linked toward your students’ success. Please refer to our student handbook regarding our updated attendance policy.

Phones and Smart Watches:

We realize that many of our students come to school with communication devices. We require that these devices stay in their backpack until the end of the day. Any electronic watches must be put on school mode hours or airplane mode if you desire them to keep the device on their wrist.

Morning Drop Off Procedures:

When dropping your student(s) off in the morning, we request that you pull into a parking lot. This allows traffic to continue to flow and students to safely cross using the cross walk where the Crossing Guard is present.

Classroom Snacks/Birthday Treats:

Please do not bring home-baked goods for classroom parties/birthdays. We have many students with allergies and dietary restrictions. Packaged goodies allow us to see the specific ingredients. If your student has food restrictions, please have extra snacks that remain in the classroom for days that your student is unable to partake in a snack brought by another student.

Orange Flag Days:

On days when the weather conditions are rainy, very windy, or in the below zero degree range, an orange flag will be placed in a location near the west entrance near the playground, the bus entrance, and the southeast area of the school. When this flag is up, children are to come inside the school using the front entrance.

26-27 Fundraiser:

Our annual cookie dough fundraiser will begin September 9 and will go through September 23. The money raised goes toward grade level field trips, special activities in the classroom, and building wide celebrations.
