Informational Meeting Tonight
Hello Lewis Community!
Today Wednesday, August 27 from 5:30-6:30 pm there will be an important walk-through to discuss paving along Glenwood to help make it safer for students walking to school. If you are able to attend, it would be great to get some parent voices! Please share the link below with other folks in the neighborhood, too.
Principal Froehlich's Message
If you missed Principal Froehlich's email, please use the link below for a lot of very important information to start the 2025-2026 school year.

Important ParentVUE verification
Action Required
Each year parents and/or guardians are asked to review and update the information on file for their students before school starts. ParentVUE is a secure website and mobile app which offers parents/guardians real-time access to school messages, school calendar, attendance, grades, course history, name pronunciations and much more.
Benefits of verifying online via ParentVUE:
- Complete yearly verification of your student's information
- Update your communication and language preferences
- Ensure your school has the most up-to-date information
- Save paper and time
ParentSquare
ParentSquare
Portland Public Schools is transitioning from the Remind platform to ParentSquare to allow for easier, more efficient communication between the district, our schools, our teachers, and our students. Everyone should have been sent an activation link from PPS.
Here is a guide on how to get started with ParentSquare.
Here are some tips for using ParentSquare.
Here is a training video you can watch for more information.
Lewis Library Volunteering and info
Volunteering
The books and I have missed your students, and the library is excited to welcome kids back for the 25'-26' school year! Once again, I am asking for some volunteers to help get the books back on the shelves and circulating to as many students as possible. If you have any interest in spending some quiet time re-shelving, dusting, shelf-reading, or stamping books, please indicate that interest in this linked form.
Some reminders as students begin to check out and take books home:
- Please help your student find a place to keep their library books at home while not in use. A table-top surface is much better than a book shelf since our library books tend to like to hide among your personal books.
- Please help your student keep their books separate from water bottles in their backpacks. The number one cause of damage to our library books is a water bottle leak in a backpack.
- Books have a check out period of 2 weeks but can usually be renewed or turned in early. When a student has reached their maximum checkout, they will not be able to check out more books until the others are returned.
- Please DO NOT mend books at home. Accidents happen and pages get torn. I have special glue and tape specifically for library needs. Please don't tape ripped pages at home.
- Kindergartners will check out books for classroom use to start, then may begin to take them home after conferences in November.

Personal Electronic Devices
Over the summer, PPS adopted a Personal Electronic Device Policy. All buildings now have an "off and away" policy. This policy applies to cell phones as well as smart watches and anything that is "capable of electronically communicating, sending, receiving, storing, recording, reproducing and/or displaying information, depictions, and/or data." For more information, please see the new PPS Cell phone Policy and SRR Handbook.
Students are encouraged to leave cell phones at home. If students choose to bring cell phones to school, they are to stay “Off and Away” in backpacks during school hours. Being present at school is essential and allows students to fully engage with learning.
The school Cell Phone Policy includes:
1st Occurrence - Students will be given a warning
2nd Occurrence-Cell phone will be collected and given to the office and returned at the end of the school day to a parent only.
3rd Occurrence-Cell phone will be collected and we will develop an individualized plan.
