3rd Grade Field Trip
On Wednesday, 3rd grade visited Barraco’s Pizza in Evergreen Park to learn about goods and services. Students took a tour of the building, learned the pizza making process, and even played with pizza dough! Students were tasked with figuring out how many pizzas could be baked in the oven at one time (64 to be exact)! They also used their geometry, fraction, multiplication, and division skills to make arrays, shapes, and even their own name out of dough! Thank you to the Barraco Family for welcoming us and for the delicious lunch!
Lucky Ducks
This past Monday was National Rubber Duck Day. All students and staff were given a unique rubber duck to celebrate. In the mix of ducks, 60 were LUCKY DUCKS (10 per grade level). Stars were placed on the bottom to draw attention to being winners. These students received a prize from the PTO. Thank you PTO for all the fun!

Our Fierke Reading Vision
At Fierke Education Center, our vision is for every student to read at proficiency by the end of 3rd grade. Research shows that 3rd grade reading proficiency is a critical milestone that influences future academic success. Studies highlight that students who do not read at grade level by 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. Additionally, reading proficiency supports success in math and other subjects, as literacy is foundational to problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Parental involvement is crucial in this journey—reading with your child at home and reinforcing literacy skills can have a significant impact on their progress. Together, we can ensure every student achieves this vital goal.
We will continue to offer free/reduced/paid lunches for the upcoming school year. The costs for each paid category are: Breakfast $1.50, and Lunch $3.75. We use a debit card system through Pushcoin. Funds can be added to your child’s card via a Pushcoin link available on our district website: www.district146.org
Breakfast will be available each morning for students using the debit card system. Students needing breakfast will go to the cafeteria to pick up their breakfast and then return to their classroom. Students will eat breakfast in their classrooms.
The daily hot lunch program will begin on Thursday, August 22nd. The student’s debit card is
scanned and deducted $3.75 whenever a hot lunch is “purchased”. Debit card accounts can be opened or re-activated by paying online or writing a check to School District 146 marked with “debit card-student’s name” in the memo line.
