Schools Earn Exemplary Designations Schools Earn Exemplary Designations

Dear D103 Families,

I am pleased to share that all three D103 schools—Sprague Elementary, Half Day School, and Daniel Wright Junior High—have earned an Exemplary designation on this year’s 2026 Illinois School Report Card!

This is an exciting accomplishment and a reflection of the collective work of our students, teachers, support staff, school leaders, and families. We are proud of the learning, growth, and commitment that take place across our district each day.

What Does an Exemplary Designation Mean?

This year, Illinois revised its school accountability system, changing how schools receive their annual designations. Under the revised system, schools are evaluated using defined performance criteria rather than being ranked against other schools. Exemplary is the highest overall designation a school can earn. Schools with an Exemplary profile demonstrate strong overall performance and have no student groups with a comprehensive profile.

The revised system considers multiple measures of school performance, organized into two categories: core indicators and elevating indicators.

Core indicators form the foundation of a school's profile:

  • Composite Proficiency: Student performance in English language arts, mathematics, and science.

  • Composite Growth: Student growth in English language arts and mathematics.

  • Composite Graduation Rate: Four-, five-, and six-year graduation rates for high schools.

Elevating indicators
provide additional information and can raise, but not lower, a school's overall profile:

  • English Learner Progress: Student progress toward English proficiency.
  • Consistent Attendance: The percentage of students present for at least 90% of the school year.

  • Climate Survey Participation: Student participation in the annual school climate survey.

What Does This Mean for D103?

All three of our schools have met the state's criteria for the highest performance designation. While we celebrate this recognition, we know that a school report card tells only part of the story. The relationships we build, the needs we meet, the growth we support, and the opportunities we create for every student are equally important measures of our work.

Thank you to our staff for their dedication, our families for their partnership, and our students for the effort, curiosity, and enthusiasm they bring to learning every day. This accomplishment belongs to our entire D103 community, and I hope everyone takes a moment to celebrate the work that made it possible.

You can explore the state report card and learn more about the measures used to evaluate schools on the Illinois Report Card website.

Warmly,

Dr. Katie Reynolds
Superintendent
