Superintendent's Friday Message
September 26, 2025
Opening Message From Dr. Galusi
Dear MPS Families and Caregivers,
It was so amazing to see all of the support last Saturday at Hormel during the NESBA Marching Band Competition! Over 1,000 people were in attendance to support our Mustang Marching band and other competitors from across the region. Our Marching Band put on a terrific performance, placing first in βOverall Effect Visualsβ and third overall. The afternoon served as a tremendous representation of our school theme of π½ππ‘π€π£πππ£π.
Myself and other members of our senior leadership team were delighted to begin our week by listening to the Medford High School Student Advisory Council present at Monday's School Committee! The students shared what drew them to the organization and the impact of their work. Their engagement with their school peers and building administration so far has led to changes such as updated homework policies, expanded student government opportunities and more. I am looking forward to seeing their continued impact on our district.
As a reminder to our MPS Community, there will be no school next Thursday, October 2nd in recognition of Yom Kippur. To all those celebrating, may this day of reflection and atonement bring you peace and clarity.
Sincerely,
Dr. Galusi
Students Engage in Hands-On Learning
Our Andrews Middle School 6th Grade students spent today learning alongside nature as part of the Wilderness Inquiry program! They played sustainability bingo, learned about composting in the trash composition graveyard, and even built small contained fires.
While students were unable to go out on canoes due to elevated bacteria levels in the Mystic River, they still made the day memorable by instead participating in relay races and drawing what they saw in nature. Thank you to the staff from Wilderness Inquiry for leading our students through a fun day.
Meanwhile, over in Westford, Massachusetts, our Seniors enjoyed their Friday on a class field trip to Kimball Farm! They spent the day playing mini golf, showcasing their volleyball, and soaking in the fun during bumper boats. The Class of 2026 was also got to choose from Kimball Farm's wide array of ice cream flavors, capping off a fun day with a delicious treat.

Upcoming Flu Vaccine Clinics
As flu season approaches, now is the time to take a simple but powerful step to protect our community: get vaccinated. The flu shot is safe, effective, and recommended every year for everyone 6 months and older.
To make it as easy as possible for families, we will be holding two in-school flu vaccine clinics from 2-4 p.m. during the month of October:
For middle and high school students: Parents/caregivers can register their children to receive the flu vaccine during the school day.
For elementary-aged children: Families may bring their children to the clinics after their school day ends. Pre-registration at either the High School or the McGlynn is strongly encouraged to help us plan and ensure a smooth experience.
Visit the links below to register. Thank you for helping us keep our schools and community safe this flu season!
Medford High School Flu Vaccine Clinic - October 1 from 2 to 5 p.m.
