π 2nd Grade End-of-Year Newsletter π
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
As we wrap up an incredible year in 2nd grade, we want to take a moment to reflect on all the amazing growth, learning, and joy weβve shared together. Your children have blossomed in so many waysβacademically, socially, and emotionallyβand it has been an absolute privilege to be part of their journey.
π Highlights from Our Year:
- Reading & Writing: Our students became confident readers and expressive writers! From personal narratives to creative stories, their love of literature has truly grown. We have completed our first year with our new ELA Curriculum, CKLA.
- Math: We explored place value, time, money, measuring, problem-solving, and multiplication foundations.
- Science & Social Studies: From life cycles to communities, we explored the world around us with hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning.
- Classroom Community: We focused on kindness, cooperation, and responsibility. Our classroom became a safe, welcoming space where everyone belonged.
π Summer Tips:
Keep the learning going with these simple ideas:
- Read every dayβvisit your local library or start a summer reading challenge!
- Practice mathβplay games, cook together, or use math in daily routines.
- Write oftenβjournaling, postcard writing, or creating stories are great ways to keep skills fresh.
π Looking Ahead:
Your children are ready for 3rd grade! They are leaving 2nd grade with stronger skills, greater independence, and a love for learning that will serve them well. We cannot wait to hear about the wonderful things they will do next. Below is a list of supplies that will help them be prepared for the first weeks of 3rd grade!
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and partnership throughout the year. It has meant so much to both me and your children.

5th Grade Perry students come to Tilden!
The event was filled with excitement, laughter, and encouragement as students came together to recognize this important milestone of coming together as one to the middle school. Students enjoyed an afternoon full of fun activities including Gaga ball, 4 square, kickball, football, tag, and basketball and a video game truck! Throughout the celebration, students created lasting memories while building excitement for the next chapter of their school journey. It was a wonderful way to honor the hard work of the 5th graders and celebrate all the opportunities waiting for them in middle school.
Innovations
π Wrapping Up an AMAZING Year! π
What an exciting year weβve had in INNOVATION! The students worked hard, showed creativity, solved problems, and learned that mistakes help us grow. Throughout the year, students used the engineering design process to imagine, create, test, improve, and collaborate with others.
ποΈ LEGO Challenge Town (Grades K-5)
Students became architects and engineers as they designed and built their very own LEGO towns! From houses and parks to fairs and zoos, students worked together to build a town using imagination and teamwork to create unique communities. Every 8 minutes, students pulled a new challenge card to overcome for their town. At the end of class, students presented their project during a gallery walk.
π οΈ 3Dux Design (Grades 2-3)
Using cardboard and recycled materials, students created Mechanimals. This challenge encouraged creative thinking, problem-solving, and innovation while showing students that amazing things can be made from simple materials.
π’ KEVA Plank Ball Run (Kindergarten)
Students explored balance, motion, and gravity while building exciting KEVA plank ball runs. Learners tested different designs, made improvements, and discovered how engineers use trial and error to solve problems.
β³ Miniature Golf Course Design (Grades 3-5)
Future golf course designers got to work creating a miniature golf hole filled with obstacles, ramps, and creative themes using Mr. Worrellβs gym equipment! Students practiced brainstorming, designing, testing, and improving while using teamwork and perseverance throughout the challenge.
π» 3D Tinkercad Design (Grades 4-5)
Students stepped into the world of digital design by using Tinkercad to create 3D models. Students explored technology, design thinking, and creativity while bringing their ideas to life on the computer: 4th grade made name keychains and 5th grade made cookie cutters.
π Qweebi Virtual Makerspace (Grades 4-5)
Students traveled through the Qweebi Virtual Makerspace where they explored creativity, coding, design, and interactive STEM activities. Learners enjoyed collaborating, experimenting, and discovering new ways to think like innovators while creating roller coasters and a Rube Goldberg machine.
π Squishy Circuits (Grade 1)
Students explored the exciting world of Squishy Circuits! Using conductive and insulating dough, students became young engineers as they built creative projects that lit up, buzzed, and moved with electricity. Through hands-on play, they learned how circuits work by connecting batteries, lights, and motors in fun and imaginative ways. Students showed great teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity while designing everything from glowing creatures to silly sculptures.
Keep building, creating, exploring, and asking questions! ππ¬βοΈ
