BHMS Weekly Update

August 6, 2026
Dear BHMS Parents and Students,
What an incredible first week of school! It has been wonderful seeing our halls filled with energy, enthusiasm, and smiling faces again. I could not be prouder of how our middle schoolers jumped right back into the swing of things. Our students have already stepped up in a big way by doing a phenomenal job demonstrating our BARK expectations throughout the building. They all received their lockers and are navigating the hallways like pros, and I want to give a special shout-out to everyone for adapting so well to our new cell phone policy. Their cooperation has created a much more focused and connected environment for our entire school community.
A huge thank you to our students for their hard work during our Star Reading assessments this week, where they truly put their best foot forward and showed great focus. Looking ahead, students will take their Star Math assessment this coming Monday. To help them shine and show what they know, please help us prepare them over the weekend by ensuring they get a great night of sleep on Sunday and bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged on Monday morning.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in making the start of this school year such a success. Enjoy a well-deserved, relaxing weekend with your family!
Our Teachers Always Go the Extra Mile for Students!
A huge shout-out to three outstanding BHMS teachers John O’Keefe, Jennifer Peterman, Shani Vickery, who were awarded the Extra Mile Award by the Decatur Education Foundation during the CSD opening ceremonies! They were nominated by students who shared how these educators made them feel seen, supported and successful not just in class, but in school as a whole. Their dedication, compassion, and unwavering belief in their students’ success make a lasting impact every day. Their unwavering commitment and inspiring efforts to help our students reach ever higher are truly appreciated. Thank you, John, Jennifer and Shani, for going above and beyond!
Seen in Success: A Huge Shoutout to Our Team!
What a memorable first week! A heartfelt thank you to our teachers and staff for their dedication, energy, and meticulous preparation. Their warm welcome created an immediate sense of community for our new and returning families alike. We are officially off to a remarkable start—here’s to a fantastic school year!
