Biomedical Engineering Discovery Program
CT AHEC’s Biomedical Engineering (BME) Discovery Program brings students aged 13-17 together for an immersion experience that includes problem solving, team development and hands-on application of knowledge and skills. During each Saturday session, students are introduced to concepts in BME in health care through hands-on activities, such as constructing hydraulic arms and designing prosthetic legs. The program is designed by educators and taught by health profession students passionate about the application of engineering in health care.
These one-day immersion experiences aim to expose students to BME concepts in hands-on group settings. Many of these programs are also supported by current medical school students, so attending high schoolers may have an opportunity to discuss their experiences in medical school.
Registration opens 30 days prior to the event and there are associated costs ($59 in-person, variable for virtual). This Saturday's hydraulic arm is still open to register for those interested!
For more information or to register use the link below:

What's Happening In The BHS School Counseling Department!
The FAFSA must be completed by all seniors this year. Please follow this two-step process.
- The student needs an FSA ID. The parent/guardian also needs an FSA ID. Click the link below to get started. If you have completed a FAFSA for yourself or any other child, you will use the same FSA ID as you did then (do not create a new one).
- After the student gets an email stating that his/her FSA ID is verified, he/she can begin the FAFSA using the website below. (Be sure to complete the 2027-2028 FAFSA.) During that process, the student will add your contact info and you will receive an email to sign in with your FSA ID to complete the parent section of her FAFSA.
- The window to apply to Connecticut State Colleges/Universities for free is October 15th -November 2nd. Seniors should take advantage of this by submitting their Common Application to these schools now!
- FAFSA and college application help will be offered to seniors during Warhawk Block on November 4th. Students wishing to meet prior to that should complete the form below to request a meeting with their School Counselor.
- Admissions representatives are still coming to BHS regularly to meet with juniors and seniors. Students can sign up using their Naviance accounts.

Our students have been doing incredible work connecting historical lessons to personal values and real-world change!
· Civics – "Great Personal Seal" Project: After examining American democratic values in the Preamble of the Constitution and the Great Seal of America, Civics students reflected on their own core beliefs. Each student identified four personal values and designed their own artistic "Great Personal Seal" complete with custom mottos, colors, and symbolism.
· 10th-Grade Honors U.S. History – "Progressive Era Superhero" Project: Students wrapped up their unit on turn-of-the-century immigration and the American Dream by researching historic reformers and muckrakers. To highlight these leaders' fights against corrupt politics, unsafe living conditions, and racial discrimination, students created superhero personas and biographies celebrating the reformers who helped reshape society.
Congratulations to our talented students for their creativity, hard work, and thoughtful insights!
