Thank you for a great year!
We made it! Today our students celebrated their final day of the school year. All students exited through the front doors for the annual clap out. Click on the image below for a short video. The clap out is one of the most wonderful events at the end of the year, and it gives all teachers an opportunity to show their joy for their students' accomplishments.
It has been a great year, and we will miss everyone. Relax and enjoy your well-earned summer!
A FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KEMMETT
I wanted to express my gratitude to the families of Furnace Brook Middle School and the greater Marshfield community for your unwavering support during my time as Principal of Furnace Brook Middle School. Thank you for entrusting your most precious gifts, your children, to my building and staff. Serving as a leader for the past 12 years, including 5 years as an assistant principal and 7 years as principal, has been a truly wonderful experience. It has been a blessing to work alongside incredibly talented educators and shape the lives of approximately 4,000 middle school students. These are memories I will carry with me for a lifetime. Thank you and have a well deserved summer!
WISHING ALL OF OUR RETIREES THE BEST
This year we had five staff members retire:
Mrs. Kemmett, Principal
Mr. Ferro, Spanish Educator
Mrs. Ferro, Spanish Educator
Mrs. Walsh, Art Teacher
Mrs. Haggerty, Special Education
Together they have well over 100 years of service to public school education. We thank them for the work they have done for the children of Marshfield and our school. We wish our retirees abundant joy in their new adventures ahead.
8TH GRADE CLASS NIGHT
Our 8th-grade students enjoyed a delightful evening of friendship and dancing at Class Night, filled with laughter, delicious food, and exciting activities. Huge thanks to our dedicated parent volunteers for transforming the cafeteria into a stunning venue! Special recognition to Mrs. Segalla & Mr. Baldwin for their unwavering commitment throughout the year, ensuring unforgettable experiences for our 8th graders. Alongside Class Night, Grade 8 also celebrated outdoor games and cherished yearbook signings. While we'll miss them dearly, we're excited for the bright futures awaiting our Grade 8 students! Farewell and best wishes, Grade 8!
SPIRIT WEEK
7th GRADE FIELD DAY
Our 7th Grade Field Day was a sunny and fun-filled event! The weather was perfect, and the students were fantastic and enjoyed the day largely due to the incredible planning and organization by Sarah Newcomb Baker, Ryan King, and John Gilbert, our talented PE staff. We are incredibly grateful! Thank you also to our PTO for helping to fund the day! Memories were made!
8th GRADE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS
Our 8th grade students had a fun filled packed day of events on Wednesday, including a visit to MHS!
STARLAND FIELD TRIP
Our 8th graders spent an exciting day at Starland in Hanover this week as well.
IN THE LIBRARY
Mrs. Deluca recognized the English class with the most points earned at this year's book fair. The winning class was Mrs. Murphy's Grade 6 Class. This week then headed to the library for a fun Hunger Games event. Congratulations to Rush E. and Marie T. for winning the event, and thank you to Mrs. Deluca for creating fun events around reading!
SUMMER READING
This year’s FBMS Summer Reading program offers a selection of books in order to incorporate a choice of perspectives and genres. The goal is to foster a love of reading and support students' individual learning needs.
This summer and next school year we will focus on the theme of “Empowering Change, Inspiring Hope.” We have identified age-appropriate books which demonstrate stories that focus on the idea of connecting with others around the world, understanding diverse perspectives, and fostering a sense of responsibility towards global issues. Through these books, students can develop a deeper understanding of their roles as global citizens and how they can contribute positively to a more interconnected world. We have created a suggested list below. Students can use this list as a guide to helping them find the right book. Any book chosen not from this list should still fit into the chosen theme.
Please note that summer reading is required of all FBMS students.

When students return in the fall, their English teachers will give directions on how to submit the required assignment. Students will have time in class at the start of the year to discuss and finalize the assignment. This assignment will count as a grade for Term 1. We look forward to discussing these themes in the fall!
Have fun and happy reading!
