AHS/DNGCounselor's CornerMarch 2026

Happy March, Bearcats!

As we head into March, we’re welcoming the energy and fresh start that spring brings to our campus. This is a season of growth, planning, and looking ahead — and there are several exciting opportunities this month designed to help our students do just that.

We’re especially looking forward to the AHS Student Career Fair on March 26, where students will have the chance to explore career pathways, connect with professionals, and begin thinking intentionally about their futures. In addition, our “Just for Juniors” event on March 30 will provide targeted information and guidance to help our junior class prepare for senior year and post-secondary planning.

Spring is a busy and important time at AHS, and we’re excited to support our students as they take these next steps. Be sure to read below for important details and ways to get involved!

2026-27 Course Selection Review

After Spring Break, students will be able to log into Ascender Student Portal to verify their course selections for the 2026-27 school year.

An email will be sent with instructions on how to verify courses, and a Google form will be used for students to sign off that they have viewed them.

If a change needs to be made, students are allowed 1 change (not including off periods once a student becomes CCMR met) and a Google form will be used to request a change as well.

More than 1 change will not be honored. Changes must be requested via the Google form to be considered.

Counseling Support Plan- Mrs. Alexander welcomes new baby!

We want to share an update regarding our counseling office. Ms. Alexander will be out on maternity leave for the remainder of the school year.

During her absence, our counseling team will continue to fully support all students. Ms. Fuller will serve as the primary point of contact for students in Ms. Alexander’s alpha (C-G). Ms. Walker and Ms. Hackfeld will also be assisting to ensure all student needs are met in a timely manner.

If your student would typically reach out to Ms. Alexander, please contact Ms. Fuller, and she will make sure you are connected with the needed resources.

We are committed to providing consistent support and look forward to partnering with you throughout the remainder of the year. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Parents- We need YOU!

We are so excited to begin planning our upcoming Career Fair on March 26th from 9-11 at Aledo High School.

Our students benefit so much from hearing real-life stories about different career paths, and there’s no better inspiration than learning from our amazing parents. Whether you’re in healthcare, business, skilled trades, technology, education, public service, or anything in between.

If you’re willing to volunteer a little time to come speak with our high school students about your profession, daily responsibilities, education/training path, and advice for teens exploring their futures, we would be thrilled to have you join us. This is a fun, low-pressure event where students rotate through and ask questions. This is the student’s chance to learn about professions they may not know exist.

If you’re interested in participating, please fill out the form below. This year we are also adding mock interviews and resume building if that is something you would like to help with as well.

Seniors: Staying Focused & Preparing for the Transition

March is a critical month for seniors as plans for life after graduation continue to solidify. With acceptance letters arriving, financial aid packages being reviewed, and scholarship deadlines approaching, it’s important for students to stay organized and proactive. This is the time to compare options carefully, ask questions, and make informed decisions about next steps.

Seniors should be checking email and college portals regularly, completing any required documentation, and communicating with admissions offices as needed. For those entering the workforce or military, this is also a key time to confirm enlistment steps, job placements, or training details. Graduation will be here before we know it, and steady follow-through now will ensure a smooth and confident transition beyond AHS.

🎓 FAFSA Deadline Approaching!

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is officially open!

The FAFSA remains one of the most important steps in securing college funding. Families should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to maximize financial aid eligibility. Completing the FAFSA is a Texas high school graduation requirement. Families who choose not to complete the FAFSA must submit a state-approved opt-out form instead.

To ensure your student receives Prom and graduation tickets, we must have either the FAFSA confirmation or opt-out form on file. Please upload your document using the link below — this is the only way to submit your information. We cannot accept paper copies or email submissions.

Juniors: Stepping Confidently Toward Senior Year

March is a key transition month for juniors as senior year moves from “next year” to right around the corner. This is the time to solidify plans, stay engaged in coursework, and take meaningful steps toward postsecondary goals. Whether students are considering college, career training, military service, or certification programs, the decisions and preparation happening now will shape a strong senior year.

Just for Juniors – March 30, 2026
AHS Auditorium | 5:30 PM

This important evening session will guide families through senior-year timelines, college applications, testing, financial aid, and other postsecondary planning steps. We strongly encourage all junior families to attend.

Juniors should continue researching options, preparing for upcoming testing opportunities, and being thoughtful about senior course selections. Families can support students by discussing goals, reviewing timelines together, and encouraging follow-through. Intentional planning this spring will lead to a confident and successful start to senior year.

The grades earned this spring will directly impact GPA, class rank, and future opportunities.
