Dot Day
In what has become an annual tradition at BASD, we celebrated Dot Day on Monday, September 16. Many teachers had their students participate in an activity related to the spirit of Dot Day. Some examples of the activities included Mr. Denny and Mrs. Kemp having their math students plot dots and create Dot Day interest plates, Mrs. Goodburn's 3D Dot Day challenge, Dot Day ty dying in Ms. Egal's class, Mrs. Smith having her students create Dot Day drawings, Mrs. Boni's students completing a variety of activities, Mrs. Kline's students programming spheros, Mrs. Markish's elementary students doing illustrations, and Mr. Hughes having his students plot graphs.
The story of Dot Day:
International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
Each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you – the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.
BAEC Open House
Open house at the Elementary Center occurred over the course of two evenings this week. Grades 3-5 had their open house on Tuesday and grades K-2 had theirs on Thursday. As always, the evenings were well attended, and we are always pleased with the parental involvement in the event.
MSHS Open House
The MSHS held their Open House on Wednesday, and it too was well attended! The evening began with an introductory session in the LGI with our new Principal, Dr. Cooke, and Assistant Principal Mrs. Shaffer, and then continued as parents, guardians, and others had an opportunity to visit classrooms and learn a bit about the many good things happening at BMHS.
BAEC Title I Activities at BAEC Open House
Each year as a part of fulfilling Title I requirements, our Title staff work to create meaningful activities and resources, and this year was no different. We had a "bear raffle" for parents who signed the Title I compact, students participated in tie dying activities, and we had a variety of information and resources relating to McKinney Vento (Homeless Act), as well as parent and family engagement.
Lunch at BMHS...
Ms. Gwen and the rest of the cafeteria staff always work to make sure the meals at the MSHS are appetizing! Of course, when it comes to tackling a calzone loaded with cheese, there is more than one way to get the job done!

Electronic Ticketing for Burgettstown Athletics!
This year, the Burgettstown Athletic Department is introducing digital ticketing for regular season football, volleyball, girls and boys basketball, and wrestling. Though all fans may still purchase a ticket "at the gate," but those who wish to avoid lines and pre-purchase an electronic ticket may do so by accessing the digital ticketing feature on the Hudl Fan page. Single game regular season tickets for both students and adults are available. Also, for those who know that will likely attend all games in a particular season, a season pass can be purchased. Please note: there is a processing fee, per ticket. This fee does not go to the school district, it is a vendor fee in support of the electronic ticketing feature. Scan the QR code or the button below to access the Hudl Fan page.

A Note about Commencement for the Class of 2025
Our school community has embraced the uniqueness of conducting commencement exercises at Star Lake for decades. The various management groups throughout the years have supported this by donating the use of the facility and we are most appreciative. While it is early in the school year, we want to make note that in order to hold graduation at Star Lake, flexibility in planning is necessary. Believe it or not, the planning for the next year begins shortly after the school year ends. We notify Star Lake management of our desired date and it is recorded as a preferred date. There are no guarantees, and in the past several years, we have not been able to finalize the date until some point in April. We know this causes a bit of anxiousness on the part of our seniors and their families, but if we want to continue this fine tradition, we must remain flexible. This week, the members of the Class of 2025 were informed that Star Lake was contacted on May 31, 2024, and informed that our preferred date for this year's Commencement is June 5, 2025. While this is our preferred date, there is no guarantee that we will get it. As the months go by this year, the District will remain in contact with Star Lake management. When we know the confirmed date, we will communicate it to our students and families. Though graduation may be the last thing on anyone's mind this early in the school year, we wanted to communicate this information so there are no misunderstandings.
