A NOTE FROM MRS. GRUETZNER
HAPPY SUMMER!! I hope you're all enjoying your summer so far and the slower pace that often comes with it!
This is in no way a Welcome Back email. This newsletter simply provides some information that you may find helpful.
On a personal note, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the ongoing love and support I have received from students, families, and staff. It's been overwhelming - in a good way! I am back at work as of today, July 1. I am feeling strong, though my treatment is just getting started. I sincerely appreciate your continued support!
WELCOME MR. GROCCIA!
We are excited to welcome Mr. Groccia back to New Fairfield and we are happy to have him at NFMS. Mr. Groccia is an experienced assistant principal. He is returning to New Fairfield from Greenwich where he served as the assistant principal of the Cos Cob School, and he previously served as assistant principal of Consolidated/Meeting House Schools in New Fairfield.
Prior to being an administrator, Mr. Groccia taught at the elementary level in the Darien Public Schools and at the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering for the Capital Region Education Council in Hartford.
Mr. Groccia earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Hartford, Master’s Degree in STEM education from Central Connecticut State University and Sixth Year Certificate Educational Administration from the University of Bridgeport.

SUMMER MATH PRACTICE
We understand that many families may be seeking ways to keep their children engaged and academically active during the summer break. Our math department is pleased to offer optional resources designed to help students strengthen their math skills over the summer.
These resources are intended to provide additional practice and enrichment for students who are
interested in maintaining and improving their math abilities. While using these resources is not
mandatory, our math teachers highly recommend them for students across all grades.
In addition to having access to Khan Academy lessons and resources, students enrolled in Pre-Algebra and Algebra Courses for the coming year are offered three essential concepts for their clarification and deeper understanding: Equations, Measurements, and Setting up Equations to Solve Real Life Scenario Problems. They can be found here.
The purpose of using these resources is to
• Reinforce key concepts learned during the school year.
• Provide practice problems to enhance problem-solving skills.
• Offer engaging multi-media resources to make learning enjoyable.
Please feel free to explore the resources that best fit your child's needs and interests. Whether
your student is looking to catch up, stay on track, or get ahead, these materials are a valuable tool
to support their mathematical growth.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to your student’s education.
LOCKS
All locks MUST be school-issued. They can be purchased through our main office.
-$8 for new locks
-$5 for used
Students only need one lock; they do not use lockers for PE.
COMPUTERS & COMPUTER CASES
- ALL students (6-8) are given a school-issued Chromebook. We do not allow students to bring their own computers at NFMS.
- Chromebooks MUST be protected. We do sell protective cases in the main office for $20. Our case is not mandatory but a protective shell/case must be used to prevent damage.
- Chromebook Insurance: We see a lot of damaged devices and students are invoiced for repairs. We recommend purchasing insurance.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
We know many of you hit the stores once those displays start appearing! Here are the supply lists for the 24-25 school year!
We do have a limited number of "stuffed" backpacks available for students in need of assistance. Please reach out to Mrs. Gruetzner, Mr. Groccia, Mrs. Tullgren, or your child's guidance counselor.
BACKPACKS & DRAWSTRING BAGS
We've learned from experience that the hallways get very crowded during transition times. Backpacks are cumbersome and contribute to traffic!
Students are not allowed to carry backpacks with them throughout the school day. However, they are allowed to carry slimmer drawstring bags to help them manage materials.
*Chromebooks must be carried separately and NOT carried unprotected in drawstring bags.
PHONES & SMARTWATCHES
There will be no phones allowed from entry to exit. All phones must stay in lockers for the duration of the school day. If parents or guardians need to relay a message to students or get in touch, please call the school. Similarly, students are welcome to come to the office to contact their parents with the permission of their teacher.
Smartwatches are allowed as long as they are not used as cell phones (calling, texting, checking notifications, etc.)
ATTENTION 7TH-GRADERS!
The NF Board of Education policy requires each pupil to have a health examination during grade six to be completed by entry into grade seven.
The physical exam must be done within one year before the first day of Grade 7 school entry. No student may start grade seven without proof of the following prior to the first day of school:
- State of Connecticut Health Assessment Record – (completely filled out – parent/guardian fills out the front and the doctor fills out the back, including a hemoglobin/hematocrit, vision, hearing, TB risk assessment, chronic disease assessment, and all starred areas).
