Message from Mr. Imbusch
Dear students, staff, and parents/guardians:
Today marks the end of the first term at Walpole High School. Report cards will be available on November 12, and our Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 20 and November 24. In the coming weeks, you will receive individual emails from your child’s teachers with links to sign up for conference times.
Today is also Halloween!
Did you know that Halloween’s origins date back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in)? The Celts - who lived in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France - celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a season often associated with death.
They believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the spirits of the dead returned to earth.
For those interested in learning more about the origins of Halloween, here’s a short video
Wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween!
Sincerely,
Stephen Imbusch

UNICEF Club
Last weekend, the UNICEF and Red Cross Clubs came together to host their 2nd annual “Monsters for a Mission” Halloween fundraiser in Bird Park! Over the 2 hour span that the trail was open to the public, over 30 student volunteers came together to interact with Walpole families by offering games, candy, and informational facts about the various missions that both of the organizations work to achieve. Together, the clubs were able to raise an estimated ~$600 that will be split and sent to both organizations! Follow UNICEF’s instagram account (@unicef.whschapter) to catch some of the candid photos during the event!
Additionally, UNICEF will have its next meeting on Monday, November 3rd, after school in Mrs. Hackett’s room (2308), in which the club’s next theme/focus will be announced and the club yearbook photo will be taken! For those interested in joining the club, the Google Classroom code is 6n53b2n. We hope to see you there!
Girl Up Chapter
This past month, the Girl Up chapter assembled to explore the theme of “Women’s Representation.” Members successfully took action to raise awareness in the Walpole community by creating advocacy posters around the school for the women’s professional clothing donation drive project, “Fitted for the Future.” At the end of the drive, the chapter collected nearly 17 lbs. of gently-used professional clothing! The donations will be given to women who are re-entering the workforce. Check out Girl Up’s instagram account (@girlup.whschapter) to see updates from our chapter!
Additionally, Girl Up is moving its meetings to most Tuesdays. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4th, after school in Mrs. Rafferty’s room (3129). During this meeting, we’ll begin to address our November theme, “Healthy Relationships (in all settings--professional, friendships, etc.), Boundaries, & Title IX Protections,” as well as take the club yearbook! For those interested in joining the club, the Google Classroom code is jp2m4wez. We hope to see you there!
