Attention 4th and 5th Grade Parents/Guardians

As part of the Boyertown Area School District health curriculum, children in grades 4 and 5 are given the opportunity to receive instruction in human growth & development and HIV/AIDS education. The grade four curriculum provides instruction specifically about the immune system and HIV/AIDS while the focus in 5th grade is on human growth and development. The following presentations provide opportunities for children to gain an understanding in fourth grade about how the immune system works and an overview of HIV/AIDS virus. In fifth grade the focus is on the biological changes that occur while growing up:

The videos will be shown on Monday, March 9th and Tuesday, March 10th.

4th Grade Videos: The Immune System Doing Its Part

5th Grade Videos: Always Changing for Boys and Always Changing for Girls

You may have your child excused from the program with a written request. Requests will be honored in accordance with state requirements. Please send written requests to the Physical Education teacher, Mr. Whitehead at wwhitehead@boyertownasd.org

New District Website - Navigating to Daily Parent Pick Up Form

The district has moved to a new website. With the new website there are some changes. To navigate to our daily parent pick up form, please go to the district website, click on Schools in the top right corner, then click on New Hanover, Students & Families, Student Pick Up and complete the form.

Reminder - Daily Parent Pick Up

The cut off for signing your child up for the end-of-the-day parent pick up form is 2:30 PM. If you forget and sign up after the cut off time, please call the office. Failure to do so could result in your child going home on the bus.

Also, only Parents and Guardians are to complete the parent pick up form. Other family members should not be completing the form. Thank you for your cooperation.

It's Cold Outside.....

Students will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill factor is 18° Fahrenheit or below, or it is precipitating. It is most important that all students dress warmly so that they will be comfortable when they are outdoors. This includes having students bring coats, mittens and hats.

NHUF T-Shirt Spirit Days

Thank you to the PTCA for providing every student a spirit shirt this year! Below are the dates we are asking our students to wear them along with what is planned that day.

March 30 – Getting ready for Spring Break

April 21 – First day of PSSAs

May 28 – Taco ‘Bout a Great Year! – Walking Tacos for Lunch

June 5 – Happy last day of school!

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is overflowing! Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found located outside the all-purpose room. We also have several pairs of eyeglasses in the office. If parents would like to come in to check the lost and found, please stop by the office during school hours.

Attendance Reporting

As a reminder, parents/guardians are required to provide written notification to the school for each day their child is not in attendance. Absences shall be treated as unlawful until the district receives a written excuse explaining the absence, to be submitted within three (3) days of the absence. The district will not change the attendance code for written notifications received after (3) three days. Please email doctor notes to Stephanie Destra at sdestra@boyertownasd.org

Parents and guardians can now complete an absence request through their Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. The Infinite Campus Absence Request feature has replaced the Google Attendance forms and can be used for absences, late arrivals, early departures, and to begin the educational trip request process. This Absence Request Video shows you how to complete the IC Absence Request process.

If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to campusportalhelp@boyertownasd.org or contact your building's Attendance Secretary, Mrs. Stephanie Destra at
sdestra@boyertownasd.org

Thank you for your attention to this important update. We appreciate your cooperation.

Volunteering

As many of you know, Boyertown Area School District has a rich history of volunteerism. Last year, we updated our process for managing volunteers and their required clearances, etc. to include the Raptor software platform already in place throughout the district.

We strongly encourage volunteers who have expired within Raptor to update their documentation following the instructions received from Raptor. Please read the following FAQ's that may answer questions regarding your expired clearances:

  • Raptor sends emails, to the email address used for the Raptor Application, at 60 days and 30 days prior to expiration. This email includes instruction to update and submit clearances.

  • The same Raptor Application is completed when applying for the 1st time or updating due to expiring document(s). All 3 clearances must be uploaded with this application, even if only one document expired and the others are still within 5 years. This is one of the reasons we strongly recommend never getting rid of the original documents.

  • Anyone who has previously been approved by Raptor should refer to the email they received from Raptor notifying them of their approval. In that email, Raptor provides a link and instructions to sign up for the Raptor Volunteer Portal. Once logged into the portal, they will be able to view their expiration date. However, they cannot view previously uploaded documents or upload new documents from the portal. (If their approval has expired, they will not be able to access the Raptor Portal)

  • Clearances are valid for 5 years from the date they were obtained, NOT the date they were submitted.

Finally, we invite those of you who are new parents/guardians to the district, and those of you who want to become new volunteers to do so now. Doing so will ensure that you are ready to join us when volunteer opportunities of interest arise.

Avoid delays. Get started today!

Our volunteer newsletter outlines the process.

PTCA/Principal Coffee Dates

Please join the PTCA and Principal for coffee on the following dates:

May 21 - 6:30 PM - Library

Security and Sign In Procedures

In order to enter the school, all visitors are required to buzz the office by pushing the silver button located to the left of the visitor door. Once you are buzzed into the building, please report to the office to sign in and pick up a visitor or volunteer badge. Please be sure to carry photo ID with you whenever you are on school property. Deliveries of any kind (forgotten homework, birthday treats, lunches) are to be made directly to the office only, not to the classroom.

Classroom Birthday Treats

All classroom/birthday treats must be pre-packaged and store-bought with the ingredients clearly written on the label. If possible, please be sure treats are of the same type (same flavor, no icing, all icing, etc.).

For the safety of all students, DO NOT send in any nut products as there may be students in the class with nut allergies. Please read your snack labels and DO NOT send in snacks that state: "Manufactured in a factory containing nut products" or "May contain allergens".

Early Dismissal Days

The Boyertown Area School District will have early dismissal days on the following dates:

March 31

June 2, 3, 4, 5

AM Kindergarten session will be 8:45-10:35. PM Kindergarten session will be 10:35-12:25.

From the Nurse's Desk - MARCH

Below you will find information regarding health room procedures. If you have any questions, please contact the nurses at 610-473-1770. Please email both nurses when contacting the Health Office to ensure your message is received in a timely manner.

Medication Information: If your child requires prescription or over-the-counter medication while at school, a medication authorization form must be completed by the physician and a parent/guardian. Once completed, please contact the health room to schedule an appointment to drop off the paperwork and medication. Prescription medications must be in the original pharmacy labeled container. Over-the-counter medication must be in the original packaging. Please refer to the BASD website for more information.

Returning Paperwork: Please return any health room forms (Physical, Dental, Medication) directly to the Health Office or via email. You can scan and email the original document or a legible photograph from your phone to dwilson@boyertownasd.org or ekovach@boyertownasd.org

* Change of clothing: Please keep a change of clothing in your child’s backpack, regardless of their age. Clothing can become soiled due to a bathroom accident, fall outside in the mud, or because of spilling food/drink. The health room may not have appropriately sized clothing, so if your child does have an accident of any sort, a parent will be called to bring clothing in.
