Principals' Message
Dear SCS Families, Caregivers, and Shelburne Community,
SCS Prioritizing Connection Over Pace: Choosing depth and relationship-building over rushing, laying a strong foundation for profound growth throughout the year. That may look different across the grade levels, but here are a few examples:
PreK having a closing circle on the PreK playground
Ms. Roth getting into kindergarten and reading books about Belonging and Acceptance
Extra staff joining student lunches to sit and talk while the table eats and socializes
Team walks around the school grounds to connect and consolidate morning instruction
We hope those of you who attended 5-8 Curriculum Night on Wednesday felt this as well. Our goals in these first few weeks are to get kids acclimated to the newness of the year. Even if they don’t have a new teacher, all students have new peers, new grade levels, and a new schedule. We know change can be a challenge, so teachers are working hard to support students’ executive functioning skills with color-coded schedules, tips for cubby organization, and lots of practice with the routines that will help the year go smoothly.
In Partnership,
Brett, Jen, and Tania

Final Reminder: Updated Contact Information and Permissions for School Directory

If you have opted in to the Directory, the following information will be included:
- Student's name, grade, and homeroom
- Parent/guardian name(s), phone number(s,) and email address(es) *

PreK-4 Open House
Wednesday, 9/30 5:00 - 6:00 pm
The annual SCS PreK-4th grade Open House is coming up on September 30. You may arrive anytime in that window between 5:00 - 6:00 pm and will have the opportunity to explore your child's classroom, EA classes, and tour the school. Let your students be your tour guide! While teachers may have information about curriculum or learning goals, you won’t find any presentations, so they can better support the ebb and flow of caregivers and students moving in and out of classrooms to explore and connect!
Scenes from Our Week
Green Team students received their Chromebooks on Thursday. We've gotten some thoughtful questions about screen time at SCS, spurred by many recent news articles. While we see value in using Chromebooks for specific, well-designed purposes, we know that too much time in front of a screen at school can be challenging for many reasons. All of our teams are being especially deliberate in thinking about how Chromebooks can enhance the learning taking place in classrooms, and when it makes sense to stick with the tried and true approach of pencil and paper.
Our bus evacuation drill were a success this week with many thanks to the helping hands
of our middle school students!
6-8 MUSICAL
The One and Only Dynamic Experience is back!
One of our most favorite PTO fundraisers where SCS staff donate unique experiences for students, and families to enter to win! From special activities to one-of-a-kind adventures, there’s something for everyone - and every entry helps support our school. We have an amazing lineup of experiences donated by our SCS staff - this is a fundraiser you won’t want to miss!
Tickets are just $1 each, or 20 for $15, making it easy to get in on the fun while supporting SCS.
More details including the full list of experiences and how to purchase tickets, is available now on the PTO website and packets will be handed out in Friday Folders today for K-4 students.
Thank you for supporting the SCS PTO and helping us make great things happen for our students!
