Oakhurst Weekly
From the Principal
Oakhurst Families,
We all share a common goal for our children to be safe and protected from all things harmful. Related to that goal, Georgia Rule 160-4-2-.12 Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Program (HB 287) and Erin's Law (SB401) require annual age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention beginning in kindergarten. The A21 K-12 Education Curriculum is a research-based, evidence-informed program that City Schools of Decatur (CSD) uses to teach the importance of healthy relationships and their connection to personal safety. The curriculum uses four foundational pillars woven throughout each grade level to spiral instruction from grades K through 12.
The purpose of the A21 curriculum is to enable students to take an active and necessary role in making healthy choices and protecting themselves from unhealthy relationships in person and digitally. The CSD Student Support Services Division reviewed and selected the program with guidance and support from the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy.
During the months of March and April, the Oakhurst school counselor will facilitate A21 lessons to students in all homeroom classes. If you have questions about Erin's Law and Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Program (HB 287) programming in CSD, please see slide 8 of the Comprehensive School Counseling and Understanding Child Lures: What Do Parents Need to Know?
OPT OUT OPTION:
If you prefer that your child not participate in the A21 Program lessons, please send an email to your child's school counselor at precious.king@csdecatur.net, indicating your preferences. Unless written documentation is received, your child will participate in the personal safety and prevention lessons. As always, please contact our school counselor, Ms. Precious King, to discuss any concerns you might have.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Triplett

Wellness is an active process of making choices that lead to a healthy and fulfilling life. Every day, people make choices about how they spend their time, what they eat, and who they spend time with. These decisions create a healthy lifestyle.
This week as a family, walk and talk or have a conversation at dinner about the following:
Social wellness refers to interacting with and getting along with others in a variety of settings. What social wellness habits does your family already do? Name a social wellness habit your family would like to start or continue doing? (Set up a family game night, join a team or individual sport team, plan a playdate.)
If paying the registration fee is a barrier for your family to participate, please contact Stacie Kenner at skenner@csdecatur.net.
Contact Stacie Kenner with questions regarding iRUN at skenner@csdecatur.net.
