Students Return Tuesday!
Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
A new school year has arrived, and on behalf of everyone in the Avon Lake City Schools, I hope you had a relaxing and fun summer. New teachers and staff participated in orientation earlier this week, and we welcome these individuals to our extended school family. Convocation will take place on Monday to welcome back our entire staff, and the chance to prepare for students to return to the classrooms. The first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year is next Tuesday, August 18th for students in grades 1st through 12th. Kindergarten and PreK students will begin on Thursday, August 20th. On behalf of everyone in the Avon Lake City Schools, we hope you have enjoyed your summers and are prepared to step back into the batter’s box for the upcoming year.
First Day of School Flyers Available! Back to School Hub Online.
Be sure to visit this page on the district website, download your child’s printable first day of school flyer, snap a selfie, and post to social media. Let’s return to school with a renewed sense of learning, while also keeping a fun spirit during the first week of classes as well. Other valuable back-to-school information is also posted on a customized back-to-school hub made available on the district website.
Latest ALCS À La Carte Podcast
Please take a moment to watch our latest À La Carte Podcast, bringing together a love for the students in the Avon Lake City Schools as well as a passion for cooking. Our special guest for this episode is Foster Machovina, who turns the table on the podcast, and demonstrates his cooking and culinary skills utilizing eggs from chickens raised by Learwood’s very own Mr. Myers. The district will continue with these podcasts showcasing our students at all levels, grades, and interests. We hope you enjoy this episode!
Student Technology Acceptable Use and Safety Policy
The technology department has posted important information for student use and safety with regard to AI and the district encourages you to review this policy closely. Please see the nearby graphic, and visit the Technology page of the district website to learn about permitted uses, scope, monitoring and enforcement. Avon Lake City Schools treats this policy with the utmost importance and encourages you to become more informed. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Board of Education Vacancy. Thank You to Jim Stobe for Distinguished Service.
Board of Education Member Jim Stobe has submitted his resignation from the Avon Lake Board of Education effective August 17, 2026. Jim has served on the Board of Education since his election in January 2012. We thank Jim for his unwavering dedication and support of our school district. Ohio Revised Code requires a Board of Education to fill a vacancy within 30 days of a member’s resignation. The School Board will interview selected applicants at a Special Board of Education meeting held on September 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Board action to appoint our new Board of Education member will be at the Regular Board of Education meeting to be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the L.A.K.E. Center of Avon Lake High School.
Important Reminder About District Policy Regarding E-Bikes
Please note as a reminder, all e-bikes equipped with a throttle are prohibited from school campuses. The district policy adopted last fall has helped enhance safety and minimize dangerous situations on, or around, our buildings and grounds. Accordingly, any e-bikes found on campus will be confiscated, students will need to meet with school administration, and parents will be contacted. In partnership with the Avon Lake Police Department, the district has also provided the following e-bike traffic laws notice for reference. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.
Join PTA! Membership Links Below.
Each of the Avon Lake City Schools has a Parent Teacher/Staff Association (PTA) that is very active, and which works closely with the district, parents, and community of Avon Lake.
Please consider joining the PTA associated with the school that your child attends. If you have students in multiple buildings, it is best to join each building. Joining PTA is a great way to get involved and to help support the teachers, staff, students and community! For your convenience, below is a link to each school’s PTA membership.
