Dolphin Digest

September 21, 2025
West End Dolphin Pod Squad,
This week, our students learned about Leader in Me Habit #7 – Sharpen the Saw, which teaches the importance of self-care and renewal in four key areas: Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual. When we "sharpen the saw," we take time to recharge so we can be at our best!
What is Habit #7?
-
Physical: Take care of your body with exercise, healthy eating, and rest.
-
Mental: Keep your mind sharp by reading, learning, and thinking.
-
Emotional: Build strong relationships and express your feelings.
-
Spiritual: Reflect, meditate, and connect with your values.
How Families Can Practice "Sharpen the Saw" Together
Here are a few fun ways families can practice this habit:
Physical
-
Go for a family walk or bike ride.
-
Cook a healthy meal together.
Mental
-
Read together or play educational games.
-
Try solving puzzles as a family.
Emotional
-
Start a gratitude jar, adding something you’re thankful for each day.
-
Share how everyone is feeling at the end of the day.
Spiritual
-
Practice mindfulness or deep breathing together.
-
Reflect on family values or spend time in nature.
Family Reflection Time
At the end of the week, talk about how these activities made you feel. Ask:
-
What helped you feel recharged?
-
How can we practice self-care more often?
Let’s keep sharpening our saws and making every week at West End a great one!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
