December 2025 School Newsletter-Merry Christmas!
Important Dates
Friday Morning Breakfast Club
Date: Friday, December 5, 2025
We will be having Friday school this Friday. This is an opportunity for students to come in and make up and work they have missing. Some students may be assigned to Friday school due to having more than 2 missing assignments, excessive tardies, or other behavior issues.
PIE (Parents Involved in Education) Meeting:
Date: Due to the shortened month there is no PIE meeting in December, Merry Christmas!
All parents are encouraged to attend our monthly PIE meetings. It’s a great opportunity to get involved, meet other parents, and hear about upcoming projects and initiatives. This month a tour of the new CTE building will be the only thing on the agenda-see you there.
Community Corner-Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Custer Jr/Sr High School!
We are grateful for our wonderful parent volunteers who contribute their time and talents to enhance our school community. If you’re interested in getting involved, please contact the school office for more information on upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Reminders
- Health & Safety: As we enter cold and flu season, please remember to keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. Your cooperation helps us keep our school community healthy.
- Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for your child’s success. Please ensure that they arrive on time and are ready to learn.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
CSD NEW Library Webpage
ATTENTION: Parents of college-bound Juniors and Seniors: The Library has a new webpage with resources you and your student may find useful in the ACT section. One page is full of “ACT Prep Resources” for the students. The “Why Does It Matter” page highlights scholarship opportunities offered through the Board of Regents and South Dakota universities, along with information on the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) for students interested in attending one of the 160 colleges across the 16 Western states. Christmas Break may be a good time to start preparing for the ACT and refining post-graduation plans.

Some of the NHS students traveled to Rapid City to help fill boxes of food at Feeding South Dakota. The students filled 600 boxes in 2 hours. These boxes will be delivered to homes around our area. The director at Feeding SD was very pleased with our students. She commended them on their work ethic and empathy towards the other volunteers.

Senior Projects Speakers Make a Difference!
All speakers shared insight into what a typical day looks like in their jobs, job outlooks in their career, possible careers within their field, and important skills for the jobs. They also shared the path they took to get to their current position. They left time to answer questions.
Student Reflections-
First Speaker: Carrie Moore (Petals and Pages)
"I learned that sometimes your qualifications don’t matter as much as your attitude and personality."
Second Speaker: Carey Poehls (Physical Therapist, Pain and Movement Solutions)
"I’m interested in healthcare, and Carey gave me insight into a possible career choice. She also highlighted the importance of communication and empathy in the healthcare field."
Third Speaker: Jeff Barnes (Technology Specialist, Black Hills Electric Coop)
"This speaker connects to my own plans and interests because it gives me comfort in knowing that I don’t have to know exactly what I want to do. I can explore various professions and then choose the one I like best, knowing that all the experiences I gain throughout the process can teach me things and be valuable in the future."
