Brown School Buzz
June 9 (abbreviated version)

Dear Families,
WIth just 13 1/2 days of school left, there is a lot to do in a very little time. We are looking forward to Field Day, field trips, and so many more activities! Please be sure to read through the upcoming events and mark your calendars. Thanks so much!
At Brown School-We Remember
Before leaving for our Memorial Day weekend, the Brown School staff and students took a moment to stop and talk about the significance of the 3 day weekend. After gathering in front of our school, third grader Bridget explained the meaning of Memorial Day to help all student understand the true meaning of the three day weekend. Next, our kindergartners helped us all understand why we say the Pledge of Allegiance each day and performed a sign language rendition of the pledge. Then, Eloise from Ms. Zisson's class led us all in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Ms. D'Amour led us in the singing of "You're a Grand Old Flag". Auggie from second grade, read a Memorial Day poem and Kennedy from Ms. McGonagle's class read about the meaning of "Taps". We then had a moment of silence before "Taps" was played. We were grateful to have Marblehead High School senior and trumpeter, Franklin Soon play "Taps". We concluded our ceremony with a whole school singing of "This Land is your Land". The kids did a great job and it was a heartfelt and learning experience for our entire school community.

Strep Update
We have had more students diagnosed with strep throat during the month of May than usual. Many of the students were from the same household, but many were not. Please be sure to get your child checked by a physician if you suspect illness.
Why it's been trickier than usual:
While some of the students presenting with "not feeling well", are complaining of a sore throat, others are not. They are sometimes presenting with stomach ache or headache. Another other reason you may not be suspecting strep throat is that it's allergy season. Some of the students recently diagnosed typically have a bit of a sore throat while managing their seasonal allergies.
Strep throat is not to be ignored. If your child is complaining of a sore throat, is feverish, and/or is feeling ill for more than 24 hours, we advise you to consult with your physician to rule out strep throat, especially if they have a friend or relative who has been recently diagnosed.
As a reminder, students being treated for strep throat must be kept home a minimum of 24 hours after treatment begins. Thanks to all for your vigilance.
SO MUCH FUN!
Fun Run 2025 was a HUGE SUCCESS!
Thank you one and all for helping to make our PTO's 2026 Fun Run so successful! The weather was perfect, the kids had a blast, and we raised over $30,000! These funds will help sponsor enrichment opportunities, student needs, and teacher appreciation. Thank you to all of our volunteers and to everyone for continuing to support our PTO and their efforts! Special thanks to Karla Strobel and Meaghan DeSoto for your hard work and to Hayley Martin for some fantastic photos!
FIELD DAY IS MONDAY, JUNE 22ND
Here are the details and how you can help!
Field Day will be on Monday, June 22 this year. We are looking forward to a fun morning of activities followed by a whole school picnic lunch and capped off with slushies provided by the PTO! While field day is not a Family Event, we will need many volunteers.
We will need people to help set up and break down the activities, work the stations and help pass out the slush. Kindergarten and 2nd grade will be rotating through the stations together and 1st and 3rd grade will be together. Parents and Caregivers are welcome to sign up for multiple spots.
If you can help out on Field Day, CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER.
A few things to know about lunch:
*Students may bring their own picnic lunch on Field Day.
*Bag lunches from the cafe can be ordered. If you are interested in ordering a lunch from our cafeteria, please place your order by Wednesday, June 17. We will send a separate email with the link for ordering a Field Day lunch from the cafeteria.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled day. Thank you in advance for making the day a success for our students.
