Attention Borrego Families
Dear Parents and Guardians,
First and foremost, as part of our commitment to keeping our children and community safe, your School Resource Officer (SRO) would like to remind all parents and motorists of the importance of obeying traffic laws in and around school zones.
Over the past several weeks, I have observed numerous traffic violations in our school zones, including speeding, illegal parking, distracted driving, and drivers disregarding the directions of the School Crossing Guard and law enforcement officers who are directing traffic. These unsafe behaviors create serious risks for students who walk, ride bicycles, and cross the streets on their way to and from school.
Please take a moment to review and follow these important safety reminders:
- Slow down: Obey all posted school zone speed limits. (Texas Transportation Code §§ 545.351, 541.302(12))
- Stay alert: Avoid using mobile devices or engaging in other distractions while driving.
- Obey ALL directions given by School Crossing Guards and law enforcement officers directing traffic.
- Do not stop or park in crosswalks or designated school bus loading zones.
- Be patient: Increased traffic around schools is temporary, but student safety is always our priority.
Our goal is not to issue citations, but to protect our students and promote a culture of safety and respect on our roadways. However, when drivers fail to comply with traffic laws or disregard the directions of School Crossing Guards or law enforcement officers, citations will be issued as necessary to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community.
We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in this effort. If you have any questions or concerns regarding traffic safety near the school, please contact me at e.salinas@epcountytx.gov or (915) 872-3910.
Thank you for helping us keep our children safe.
Respectfully,
Deputy Elizabeth L. Salinas #850
Estimados Padres y Tutores,
