Reading with Spot!

Our first and second graders are building strong reading skills using Amira! Every month, classes have a friendly competition to see who can read the most stories.

We are thrilled to announce our August champions:

First Grade Winner: Mrs. Tanner’s class
Second Grade Winner: Mrs. Smothers’ class

Great job, readers! Who will take the crown in September and get to keep Spot?

Attendance Matters!

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and our school is focused on helping every student build and maintain a winning daily streak! Consistent school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student achievement, emotional well-being, and social growth. When students miss school, they miss out on crucial learning and community experiences. Help your child keep their attendance streak strong with these simple daily habits:

Set a Consistent Routine: Establish predictable bedtime and morning schedules to make starting the day smooth and stress-free.
Prep the Night Before: Lay out clothes, charge chromebooks, and prepare lunches before bed to avoid morning delays.
Plan Ahead: Schedule doctor visits and family trips during school breaks or outside of instructional hours whenever possible. Here’s a quick guide to those breaks.
Communicate Early: If your child is sick or facing a challenge getting to school, reach out to their teachers or our school counselor — we are here to partner with you and support your family!

Be on the look-out for the incentives/rewards/prizes for having the best attendance for the month of September, beginning Tuesday, September 8th!

Notes from Nurse Deal

Fall is coming! Let's be ready! Coughs, colds, sore throats and respiratory illnesses become more common when the weather begins to cool and we're inside closer together. Please teach and encourage your student/family to use good cough and sneeze etiquette to reduce the spread of germs and viruses. At school, we use the elbow method to block respiratory spray and good, frequent handwashing. Let's take care of each other and our little LES Counts! Nurse Deal

Career Day is coming up on Thursday, September 24th and we need YOU to be a Guest Speaker! Career Day is from 8:15am-1:45pm with a break for lunch.

Career Day Interest Form

Please note that not all will be contacted to participate, based on need and scheduling. If selected, Mrs. Hancock will contact you with further details. Thank you for helping our students DREAM BIG!

Technology Fee Reminder

Families,

In keeping with KCSD School Board policy, all students in grades 1st - 5th need to pay a $10 technology fee before they can bring a device home. This and other fees can be paid online. To pay, you can go to www.myschoolbucks.com and create an account or log in to an existing one. Payments can be made by visiting the "School Store." Myschoolbucks.com charges a processing fee for online payments. You may also send $10 (cash or check made payable to LES) to your child's teacher, or you may drop it off at the front office. This fee must be paid each year and covers charges for Chromebook damages. The KCSD insurance plan covers the cost of one (1) accidental repair per school year; however, any damages or repair costs beyond the first incident will be the responsibility of the student/parent/guardian. Please refer to pages 73 and 74 of the Parent Handbook below for additional information.
