Native American Heritage Month

November is National Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, values, and histories of Indigenous peoples throughout the United States of America. This month we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions Native Americans have and continue to make to this country, and raise awareness about the historical challenges indigenous cultures have faced and continue to face. (1) As educators it is important that we educate students about tribal history/shared history.

We have great resources here in the district on our Curriculum Page thanks to Brenda Brainard, but here are some more.

SO COOL.....

  1. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do yourself a favor and check out Flippity - is a free resource for teachers that allows for the creation of quizzes, flash cards, presentations, memory games, word searches, and more..
  2. Achivethecore.org - When you enter a passage from a complex text into the free Academic Word Finder, along with the grade level being taught, the tool identifies the academic vocabulary for the selected grade. It provides student-friendly definitions, too! https://bit.ly/2JEVtPH
  3. Practical Edtech - https://practicaledtech.com/ is a great resource by Richard Byrne. I especially liked his blog/article Five Ways to Use Comics in the CLassroom, where he specifically explains how to create comics in Canva.
  4. Check out this cool Election Day simulation by @MrRoughton. Simulate the election by having your students choose the ultimate superhero with the publishers standing in for the parties. Would love feedback on this brand new activity! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1QjDKZpnYIUKbk_dUwi9MDWKlnBBmTFcGKPFeYrWCNqU/copy?usp=sharing…
