Warren School Weekly Update

October 24, 2025
Although we had another short week of school, it was an exciting one here at Warren!
This week, we celebrated Unity Day, a national event that takes place during National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal of Unity Day is to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Students and staff showed their support by wearing orange to stand united against bullying.
In addition, our students participated in a schoolwide interactive art installation inspired by the work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. This project allowed students to contribute creatively to a collaborative piece of art that celebrated individuality and community.
Last night, many families joined us for Monster Math Night! We hope you enjoyed spending time together, exploring math activities, and seeing how learning can be both fun and engaging. Thank you to Mrs. Freeman and Ms. Marquez for organizing such a wonderful family event.
Next week, we will have early dismissal at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conferences provide an important opportunity for us to collaborate in support of your child’s growth. As parents and caregivers, you are your child’s first and most important teacher, and your partnership is key to their success.
Here are a few tips to help make the most of your conference experience:
· Review your child’s schoolwork and homework beforehand.
· If you have specific questions or concerns, consider emailing them to the teacher ahead of time so they can prepare.
· Use the conference time to discuss your child’s strengths, areas for growth, and ways we can work together to support their learning.
After your conference, share what you discussed with your child. Talk about their successes and areas for improvement, and ask for their ideas on how they’d like to grow. These conversations help children take ownership of their learning and build confidence in their progress.
We are excited about the collaboration and insight these conferences bring. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference in your child’s educational journey.
Finally, as part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, we conducted a bus evacuation drill this morning. On Monday, Warren School will also conduct a practice “stay-in-place” drill, which is a standard safety procedure in all schools.
Stay in Place is used for situations when there is not an immediate threat to building safety, such as medical emergencies. It is not a lockdown. Movement is not allowed between classrooms, but classroom instruction can continue. This drill is anessential part of our safety protocol to prepare students and staff for an emergency situation. The Ashland Police and Fire Departments will assist us during our drill.
Students will know ahead of time that they will be participating in this drill, and it will be made clear during the practice that it is a drill. Any student experiencing emotional distress before, during, or after the stay in place drill will have the opportunity to meet with a trained school counselor or school adjustment counselor. Please visit ashland.k12.ma.us/safety for frequently asked questions about ALICE and tips to support your child before and after a safety drill.
Please be assured that these drills are essential for helping students understand what to do in an emergency and will be conducted in a controlled and supportive environment. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Michael Caira, Safety Committee Chair, at 508-881-0150.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep our students safe.
Have a great weekend,
Pete

Hi Families!
I’m Kathy Ferrecchia, the Literacy Coach at Warren! Each month, I’ll share a spotlight on what our K–2 learners are doing in reading and writing, so you can join in the excitement from home.
Our K–2 students are beginning the year by building strong foundations in reading and writing. Kindergarteners are working on letter recognition, sounds, nursery rhymes and illustrations. First graders are focusing on short vowel words and developing confidence in blending and decoding. Second graders are practicing fluency, comprehension, and writing complete, detailed sentences. These early skills will support continued growth throughout the year.
Feel free to contact me: kferrecchia@ashland.k12.ma.us
💡 At-Home Ideas:
Read aloud together every night and let your child retell the story in their own words.
Practice noticing letters and sounds on signs, menus, or grocery items.
Encourage your child to write a short note, list, or label something at home.
Warren School's Social Emotional Learning Update:

Here are some things you can do to help your child develop a sense of belonging:
- Create opportunities where your child can connect with others outside of school.
- Practice open communication, create a safe environment for them to share their feelings.
- Check out this PBS article.
- Talk about all the different groups you and your family belong to (teams, clubs, church, work/school…).
