Some who knows something about goal setting and success is Bo Jackson, one of the greatest athletes of all time. Bo is the only professional athlete in history to be selected as an All-Star in two major American sports - MLB & NFL. In addition to his athletic accolades, his Nike commercials about "Bo Knows" were legendary! As a famous sports figure, he also had some legendary quotes and one of my favorites went like this:
"Set your goals high and don't stop till you get there."
Our Hobart winter sports teams have some high goals for achievement over the next 3 months and have been WORK WORK WORKing HARD to pursue them! As the temps outside start to go down, the competition inside is heating up! Starting tomorrow, ALL 7 of our winter sports will be underway!
You know what else Bo knows? It's time for BricksCenter!

On Wednesday night, the Brickies welcomed both Highland and Valparaiso to The Friendly City for some wrasslin! Hobart squared off with the Trojans in the first match of the night and it was a BATTLE! Starting at 135, Highland jumped in front 28-6 through 6 matches, but Hobart fought back with 4 consecutive wins to move in front 30-28!! Juniors Lena Raygoza & Joanna Cantu and sophomores Ashley DeBusk & Veronica Morales ALL won by PIN to put the Brickies in the lead!!! Highland won the next 2 to go back in front, but junior Olivia McIntire won by pin to get Hobart within reach at 36-40!! Unfortunately, the Trojans won the final match of the contest to secure the overall victory. What a match by both teams!! After a 10-minute intermission, the Brickies took on the Valparaiso Vikings!! Starting at 140 lbs, the Brickies DOMINATED the visitors and earned an impressive 66-18 VICTORY!!!
Saturday morning our girls headed East to Mishawaka for the Sarah Hildebrandt Invitational @ Penn High School. Overall, it was a good day for the Brickies as our girls finished 14th overall out of 25 schools competing! Raygoza placed 2nd overall in her weight class for the varsity competition and Cantu finished 4th in her weight class. For the Hobart JV, senior Belen Guzman, juniors Delaney Williams & Bre Zon, sophomore Nora Hornak and freshman Layla Gutierrez all WON their respective weight classes!! As a special treat, Olympic GOLD MEDALIST and Penn High School graduate Sarah Hildebrandt ... the individual that the tournament is named for ... was on hand to witness the tournament and share some inspiring words with our girls!! HOW COOL!!!
So far, the Brickies are an even 3-3 on the year and will be back at it TWWWWOOOOOOOOO more times this week ... a home matchup against Munster on Tuesday and a Saturday tournament at Rochester! GO GET 'EM LADIES!!

On Tuesday night, the Brickies boarded the bus and headed for Porter County to square off with the Kouts Fillies. Over the last 5 years, Hobart has won 3 in this matchup and Kouts has won 2 ... all competitive games ... and Tuesday night's contest was no different. The Bricks got on the board first with a pair of Ladan Weinman FTs, but ultimately Kouts held a 13-8 advantage after 8 minutes of play. In the 2nd quarter, Hobart BATTLED BACK - outscoring the host Fillies 12-6 in the stanza and taking a 20-19 lead into the halftime locker room!! The 2nd half was INTENSE as play went back-and-forth! Kouts retook the lead by 1 point heading into the final quarter of play and in spite of a GREAT EFFORT on the D-D-D-DEFENSIVE side of the floor by our girls, the hosts held on to win a close one 46-42. Senior Hallie Pendleton and junior Cali Bliss each scored 8 points to lead a balanced attack on offense for Hobart with Weinman, junior Riley Weber and sophomore Kurah Krucina all chipping in 6 points. Weber hauled in a team-high 7 rebounds and Bliss added 6. Weinman also dished out 4 assists while Pendleton & Krucina each finished with 5 steals in the loss.
Saturday brought another road test for the Brickies ... a non-conference game @ Griffith. Our girls were ready to roll getting off the bus and took a 12-9 lead after 8 minutes of play! The Panthers rallied in the 2nd stanza, outscored the Bricks 18-8 and took a 27-20 advantage into the halftime locker room. Throughout the second half of action, Hobart BATTLED HARD, but couldn't find any rhythm on offense to cut into the deficit and ultimately lost a tough one 51-36. Krucina was the only Brickie player to reach double-figures in scoring with 11 points. Kurah actually had a double-double as she recorded a game-high 10 steals as well.
Through 3 games, the Brickies are 1-2 overall. Our girls will be back in action twice this upcoming week with a 3rd straight road trip on Wednesday ... this time to Westville ... before returning home for a neighborhood showdown with River Forest. GOOD LUCK LADIES!!
