Hermosa School Weekly Recap - Week of April 14-16
Hornet Families,
We had a short, but productive week here at Hermosa School as we began our South Dakota State Math Assessments for grades 3-8 on Tuesday and Wednesday. The track team headed to Belle Fourche on Tuesday and there were a load of top 10 finishes and personal records. Congrats to Racina H. for winning the girls high jump! We also held our Kindergarten Readiness Round-up on Tuesday and Wednesday as we start to prepare for our newest students to the Hermosa School family!
Reminder that there is no school April 17-21 for Spring Break. I hope everyone finds time to relax and rejuvenate for the final push to the end of the school year. Check below for upcoming events and activities next week!

South Dakota State Assessment Dates
Dear Parents and Guardians,
State testing at Hermosa School for students in grades 3-8 will begin on April 1st. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and growth. We appreciate your support in helping them do their best!
Here are some ways you can help your child be successful during testing:
✅ Ensure a Good Night’s Sleep – Make sure your child gets plenty of rest before each testing day.
✅ Provide a Healthy Breakfast – A nutritious meal helps with focus and energy.
✅ Arrive on Time – Being at school on time reduces stress and ensures your child doesn’t miss important instructions.
✅ Encourage a Positive Attitude – Remind your child to try their best and not to worry. A calm, confident mindset makes a difference!
✅ Avoid Scheduling Appointments – If possible, please schedule any doctor or dentist visits outside of testing hours.
Thank you for your partnership in making this a successful testing period for all our students. You can find the testing schedule below and all tests begin in the morning after breakfast is served. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Happy Spring Break!
April is flying by! Our students have completed three of their four State Tests, and we are so proud of their effort. Next week we will conclude our State Testing, besides a few students who need to make up tests. In counseling lessons, Kindergarten - 3rd grade are working on their Problem-Solving Units with Second Step. This unit, at grade level, breaks down how to say a problem without casting blame, apologize when we've made a mistake, ask for what we need to fix a problem, and what steps to take to resolve a problem.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable long weekend with family, gets fresh air, and rests up to finish the rest of the school year strong!
