WWES Eagle Families,
🦅 A Note from Mrs. Miller 🦅
Dear Western Wayne Families,
This is our last week before Fall Break! Friday is our Book Character Day and Fall Parties. Students may dress as their favorite book character. Costumes must be school appropriate and not scary. Our youngest Eagles should not be afraid. 😍 Teachers will ask students to change if they are dressed inappropriately.
Jacy House will be in our building tomorrow and Tuesday. Notices went home a couple weeks ago for those who choose to NOT have their child attend. Thank you for allowing your children to hear about the child advocacy center in Wayne County. It is designed to prevent and prosecute child abuse while reducing trauma for child victims.
Dr. Todd Bess is an educational leader currently serving as the Executive Director of the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP). He will be at our school board meeting on Wednesday, October 21st to explain Indiana's new Accountability Model. This model will be based on many measurements to give each school a letter grade A-F.
Western Wayne is truly doing great things. We have great leadership in Dr. McIntire and while change is hard, it is necessary at times. We challenge you to talk to your neighbors, friends, and local families. Share the great things happening at Western Wayne Schools and challenge others to come check us out, or come back and give us a chance! When people take a closer look at everything we offer, they see just how special this district is.
Thank you for your ongoing support, partnership, and Eagle pride. Together, we are building something truly special!
A quick note:
Water Bottles: Just a friendly reminder that only water in clear bottles are allowed inside the building. Students are allowed to bring milk and juice in their lunch boxes. Please send a drink with your child if they are a packer.
Morning Car Rider Drop-Off: With a recent influx of car riders, we need everyone's help to keep our morning drop-off line moving smoothly and safely. Please ensure your child is ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you pull up. Unloading begins at the gym doors. We have staff stationed outside to help guide students safely onto the sidewalk and into the building.
Stay Connected: All official school announcements, teacher updates, and event schedules will be communicated through ParentSquare. Please make sure your contact information is up to date in Harmony so you don't miss any important updates.
Attendance Matters: We are striving for a 98% or better attendance rate this year! Being at school every day helps students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Allergy Awareness: To keep all students safe, please remember that our classrooms are peanut and tree nut-free zones. Nut products may be packed in school lunches to be eaten in the cafeteria, but classroom snacks must be free of nuts and peanut butter.
ILEARN Scores: Summative results are back!! Be looking for information THIS WEEK.
As we move forward, we must continue to collaborate closely as a community. Please remember that our doors are always open, and we are always happy to engage in transparent communication. I strongly encourage you to talk with us directly before turning to social media. In my 25 years in education, I've learned that nearly every issue stems from a simple miscommunication that a quick conversation can fix. Reaching out personally gives us the opportunity to work together, as we do not address school matters on social media. Together, we can model great teamwork and communication for our children.
Thank you for your continued partnership, strength, and heart.
Warmly, with gratitude and Eagle pride,
🟡Mrs. Miller🔵

Hello all,
We are also running a free membership promotion through our MyClubHub parent portal accounts, and if students sign up for a membership via our MyClubHub website ( https://bgcwaynecountyindiana.my.site.com/portal/s/login/?ec=302&startURL=%2Fportal%2Fs%2F ) they can use the promo code FREEMEM to receive a free membership for their child. We would greatly appreciate if you wanted to share this on Parent Square. If members would like to sign up for 10/14, we are taking in-person sign-ups with cash payment required. If members would like to sign up for Fall Break, MyClubHub gives parents the option to pay for the entire week, but if they would rather pay on a day-to-day basis, we are accepting in-person cash payments. Thank you!
Have a wonderful day,

ILEARN
Indiana’s Learning Evaluation and Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) is an assessment system that measures achievement and growth related to Indiana Academic Standards for students in grades three through eight, high school biology, and high school U.S. Government. The assessment system includes:
- A through year assessment for grades 3-8 mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) with 3 Checkpoints and one end-of-year summative assessment.
- An end-of-year summative assessment for grades 4 and 6 science, grade 5 social studies, high school Biology, and high school U.S. Government.
Data from the ILEARN Checkpoints informs instruction and interventions on the Indiana Academic Standards, supporting student learning throughout the course of the school year. Data from ILEARN end-of-year (summative) assessments is used to check students’ mastery of the standards at the end of the year, to evaluate program efficacy, and for school accountability.
Students are required to participate in the ILEARN Biology End-of-Course Assessment (ECA) upon completion of the high school biology course to fulfill a federal participation requirement. The ILEARN U.S. Government ECA is available per state legislation as an optional assessment for students upon completion of the high school U.S. Government course.
For more information about the ILEARN Through Year Assessment system, watch this video.

Please Read the Following About Allergy Awareness
In an effort to ensure all of our students with severe peanut/tree nut allergies are safe, we are asking that our classrooms remain peanut/tree nut free. Student may have these items in a packed lunch to be eaten in the cafeteria. However, we ask that any snacks or party items sent in to be eaten in the classroom, be free of peanuts/tree nuts/peanut butter (including Nutella). Some students with severe allergies can be affected by touching these items so we would like to ensure our classrooms are safe zones. We do have an allergy aware table in the cafeteria. If your student has a severe allergy to a food item and you would like them to sit at this table, please notify your student's teacher, Mrs. Miller, or Mrs. Pattison and we can discuss a plan safest for your student.
Thank you so much for your help and your sensitivity to other students with severe food allergies.
