A Final Message A Final Message

As this school year comes to a close, so does a chapter in my life. After 30 years at Dryden High School, this issue of The Dryden Red and Black will be my last.

Over the years, this newspaper has served a simple but important purpose: keeping students, families, staff, alumni, and community members connected to the life of our school. We've shared achievements, celebrated milestones, highlighted activities, recognized outstanding students and staff, and told the story of what it means to be part of the Dryden community.

One of the things I have always appreciated most about Dryden is that it is more than a school district. It is a family. Whether it was a packed gym on a Friday night, a classroom project, a student's academic or athletic accomplishments, a community event, or a graduation ceremony, there was always something worth celebrating and sharing. This newspaper gave us the opportunity to do just that.

As I look back on my career, I am grateful for the countless students, families, colleagues, and community members who have made these past 30 years so rewarding. Thank you for your support, your encouragement, and the many memories we have created together. It has been a privilege to watch generations of Cardinals learn, grow, succeed, and give back to their community.

While I may be retiring, the story of Dryden will continue. New students will walk through our doors, new traditions will be created, and new accomplishments will fill the pages of future issues. I am excited to see what comes next for our school and community.

It has been an honor to serve as advisor of The Dryden Red and Black and a teacher at Dryden High School. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your stories.

Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Ms. Sheryl Czerwinski

Cardinals Blank Soldiers, Advance to District Final

The Dryden Cardinals punched their ticket to the MHSAA Division 4 District 124 Championship game in dominant fashion on May 30, defeating the Genesee Christian Soldiers 10-0 in a five-inning district semifinal at Genesee High School.

The Cardinals were led by a historic performance from senior pitcher Ian Tresnak, who threw a five-inning no-hitter while striking out 10 batters. Tresnak allowed just two walks and faced only 17 hitters in the complete-game victory.

Dryden's defense backed up the ace throughout the afternoon, helping preserve the shutout and keeping the Soldiers off the scoreboard.

At the plate, the Cardinals collected 10 hits and put pressure on Genesee Christian from the opening inning.

Tresnak helped his own cause offensively, finishing 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Shortstop Aiden Furneaux delivered one of the biggest hits of the game, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a pair of doubles.

Dryden showed depth throughout the lineup. Rowan Handley added a hit and scored a run while drawing a walk. Jayden Stankevich contributed a hit, an RBI, and a walk. Aiden Dunny scored twice, collected a hit, and stole two bases. Santiago Perales added a hit and a run scored.

The Cardinals were aggressive on the bases, recording four stolen bases. Dunny swiped two bags, while Tresnak and Handley each added one.

Genesee Christian struggled to solve Tresnak's pitching. The Soldiers' lineup struck out 10 times and was unable to record a hit.

By the final out, Dryden had scored 10 runs on 10 hits while limiting the Soldiers to no hits and no runs. The convincing victory sent the Cardinals into the District 124 Championship game with momentum and confidence as they continued their postseason run.

Cardinals Capture District 124 Title with Dominant 12–1 Victory Over Byron

The Dryden Cardinals are district champions.

Dryden powered past the Byron Eagles, 12–1, in the MHSAA Division 4 District 124 Final at Genesee High School on May 30, combining timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and strong pitching to secure the championship.

The Cardinals scored 12 runs on nine hits while holding Byron to just four hits. Dryden's offense was led by pitcher Ian Tresnak, who turned in a remarkable all-around performance. At the plate, Tresnak went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, including a triple. On the mound, he pitched the first two innings, allowing only one hit while striking out five.

Shortstop Aiden Furneaux also had a huge day offensively, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Furneaux added three stolen bases and helped keep pressure on the Eagles throughout the game.

Dryden wasted little time taking control. The Cardinals consistently put runners on base, drawing five walks and taking advantage of several hit-by-pitches. Their aggressive approach on the bases resulted in four stolen bases and numerous scoring opportunities.

Other offensive contributors included:

  • Rowan Handley: 1-for-3, one run, one RBI, one walk

  • Jayden Stankevich: 1-for-4, one run

  • TJ Mersino: one RBI and one run scored

  • Santiago Perales: one hit, two runs scored, and a walk

  • Jax Morley and Dylan Lasher each scored a run

Dryden's pitching staff was equally effective. Tresnak struck out five of the nine batters he faced over two scoreless innings. Furneaux followed with three innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four. Together, the Cardinals' pitchers recorded nine strikeouts and limited Byron to just four hits.

The convincing victory capped an impressive district tournament run for Dryden and earned the Cardinals the District 124 championship trophy.

With strong performances from both the lineup and pitching staff, Dryden demonstrated the balanced attack that has fueled its success throughout the season. The Cardinals now move on with momentum and confidence after one of their most complete performances of the year.
