A Note from the Principal
Greetings Sanborn!
With only four days of school this past week, it flew by! It was nice to have some dry, warmer days after a wet and cold week, but the cold air has made a swift return.
This past week our high school students had a modified schedule on Wednesday during which students in grades 9-11 took the PSATs and our grade 12 students participated in Seniors in Action. It was a busy but beneficial morning for all. On Friday morning a group of approximately 20 high school students traveled to Portsmouth Regional Hospital to learn more about careers in healthcare. Friday evening the Middle School Boosters hosted a Halloween dance for students in grades 6-8; a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who put together such a great night for the students!
As we look to the week ahead, our sixth grade students will take their first field trip of the year to Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth - we hope it is a bright, sunny day for them! We have just two weeks left in the quarter, please remind your students to check their grades, turn in their work, and make arrangements for extra support as needed to finish the first quarter strong!
Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled to take place from 9:00am to 7:00 pm on Election Day, Tuesday November 3rd. On Monday, 10/19 at 4:00 pm an email will be sent with scheduling links for all Middle and High School teachers - all links will be available on one spreadsheet for easy access for all.
Let's make it a great week, Sanborn!
Southern District Fall Conference
On Thursday, October 8th, the Sanborn Student Council hosted the annual Southern District Fall Conference. We had a beautiful day for team building and idea sharing among student leaders from Exeter, Salem, Timberlane, and Winnacunnet. We learned leadership skills like teamwork and communication through activities like the Human Pretzel, the Whale Watch balancing platform, swinging over the Peanut Butter Pit, and helping everyone into the Eagles' Nest. The big takeaway was how listening and making a plan can help us be more effective leaders. This has become a great way to kick off the year for each of our Southern District councils and we appreciate their continued participation.
PSATs
On Wednesday, students in grades 9–11 spent the morning taking the PSATs, while our seniors participated in their Seniors in Action Day. Students worked hard throughout the morning, focusing on their assessments and making the most of their time. After a busy morning, all students enjoyed a break with lunch and a school-wide volleyball tournament for grades 9–12. The tournament was a great way for students to have a brain break after a busy morning. A huge thank-you to all of the staff members who proctored the PSATs and helped make the morning run smoothly and to all who participated in the volleyball tournament and brought some fun to our day!
Sanborn Seniors in Action Day
Sanborn Seniors in Action is a day dedicated to helping our students build important financial literacy skills while giving back to our school and local community. This year, our financial fair was sponsored by Partners Bank in Kingston. Students began by researching careers, selecting a career path, and learning about potential earnings. They then visited several interactive booths where they put their financial knowledge to the test by making real-world decisions, including whether to buy or lease a car, rent or purchase a home, and determine what they could afford for a phone plan. These hands-on experiences gave students an opportunity to explore the financial responsibilities and decisions they will face as they prepare for life after graduation.
The second part of the morning focused on making a positive impact in our community. Our seniors rolled up their sleeves and participated in a variety of service projects, including campus clean-up, distributing positive notes, writing thank-you cards, painting rocks for our art garden, making blankets for our local nursing home, and decorating Thanksgiving Day boxes.
It was truly amazing to see our seniors so engaged, working together, and finding meaningful ways to make a difference. We are proud of their willingness to learn, serve, and give back to the Sanborn community! What a wonderful way to put financial skills and community spirit into action!
SST Open House
SST's Prospective Student Open House on Thursday, November 5, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM is open to all, but most importantly for students in grades 8, 9, and 10 as they plan their pathway in high school. Students and caregivers will be able to see all programs or just the programs they are interested in. See the lab spaces, meet the teachers, and learn more about the opportunities that SST offers.
