Capitol Hill Weekly Update
5/15/26
Interested in Serving on Site Council?
Capitol Hill is looking for parents and guardians who are interested in serving on our Site Council for the upcoming school year.
What is Site Council?
Site Council is a group of parents, teachers, and the principal who work together to support the school’s continuous improvement. The council reviews schoolwide data, discusses priorities, and advises the principal on decisions that impact our school community.
What did we focus on this year?
This year, our Site Council:
Reviewed student learning and climate data
Discussed schoolwide priorities and goals
Advised on how to allocate discretionary staffing (FTE) to best support students
What does participation look like?
Monthly meetings on the last Monday of the month at 5:30pm
Reviewing information in advance
Participating in thoughtful discussion and representing our broader community
How to express interest:
Parents/guardians who would like to participate are invited to submit a brief paragraph sharing a little about themselves and why they are interested in serving.
👉 Deadline to submit: Thursday, May 21 at 10:00am
👉 Submitted paragraphs will be published in next week’s newsletter
👉 Please submit your bios to farmenda@pps.net
The community will then have the opportunity to vote on candidates on May 29.
Important note:
By state guidelines, Site Council must have an equal number of parent/guardian and teacher representatives. If we do not have enough teacher representatives, the number of parent representatives will be adjusted accordingly.
This is a great opportunity to be part of the conversations that help shape our school.
Capitol Hill Community Barbecue – Join Us
We are so excited for the third year of our Community Barbecue, a growing Capitol Hill tradition where our entire community comes together to share a meal, connect, and celebrate.
This event grew out of conversations during our Equity Team dinners with families of color and continues to be a meaningful way to honor the rich cultures and identities that make our school strong. We hope you’ll join us on June 3rd from 5:00–7:00 PM for an evening of food, art, and fun!
We are incredibly grateful to our PTA for their generous $1,000 donation, which helps make this event possible.
This is truly a community-powered event, and we need your help to make it a success! We’re looking for volunteers and contributions such as:
Grills (and help transporting them!)
Cooks and grill helpers
Side dishes, condiments, and potluck items
Set-up and clean-up support
Help running activities like art, games, and more
👉 Please take a moment to RSVP and let us know how you can help by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/rFod4pFJhAjdFWPw7
Your participation—whether by attending, bringing a dish, or lending a hand—helps create a joyful, welcoming experience for all.
We can’t wait to celebrate together!
