Habit 1: Be Proactive — Take Charge of Your Learning!
Being proactive means taking responsibility for your learning. Instead of waiting for someone else to help, think about what you can do to be ready, learn, and keep going.
What Habit 1 Looks Like at School
- Coming to class ready to learn
- Having your supplies ready
- Being prepared with your Chromebook, pencil, notebook, and other materials
- Trying your best, even when work is challenging
- Asking questions when you don’t understand
- Asking for help when you need it
- Checking your work before turning it in
- Fixing mistakes and learning from them
- Staying focused and using your learning time wisely
- Trying a different strategy when something doesn’t work
- Taking responsibility for your own progress
How Families Can Practice at Home
Ask your child:
- “Are you prepared with everything you need?”
- “What can you do if you don’t understand?”
- “What strategy could you try?”
- “Did you check your work?”
- “What did you learn from your mistake?”
Proactive Words to Try
“I can be prepared.”
“I can figure out my next step.”
“I can ask for help when I need it.”
“I may not know it yet, but I can keep trying.”
Hábito 1: Ser Proactivo — Hazte cargo de tu aprendizaje
