Keystone Competition at the DCIU
On Friday, January 23, seventh- and eighth-grade Gifted Seminar students participated in the 1st Annual Keystone Competition at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Morton, Pennsylvania. This one-day STEM challenge invited teams to design a change that could improve their school community. BHMS was proudly represented by Idris Isaaka, Angela Liu, Mohammad Muntasim Rahaman Rehan, Kyra Thompson, and Rose Westrope.
After brainstorming and problem-solving, teams built prototypes using materials such as cardboard, plastic bottles, popsicle sticks, and straws, along with shared tools. BHMS students tackled the Environment and Sustainability challenge by proposing a plan to transform the school courtyard into a garden, using the produce to make organic smoothies in the cafeteria and composting the byproducts to create a sustainable cycle. The team earned second place for their innovative idea—great work, Royals!
