Message from Principal Sledge

This month we are celebrating Black History Month. Each day during our morning announcements, we honor the contributions of African-Americans by sharing a short biography of the selected individual, along with an encouraging quote! As a reminder, please remember that it is important for students to be in school each day and on time. We are continuing to focus on our building goal of 93% school wide attendance. Please read the article below:

Black History Month

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of "Negro History Week," the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.

Counselor's Corner!

This month our students will be focusing on the skills of self control and self discipline. This is the time of year when school work gets more difficult, students have more energy because they haven’t been outside for recess and many students are beginning to have growth spurts and don’t realize how big they have gotten. We figure there is no better time to practice self control!

Our students will be learning about being aware of personal space, controlling their wiggles and reducing interruptions. We are hoping this focus will help our students have a more successful end to their school year.

~Mr. Robinson, Counselor

PBIS!

Snyder Park students continue to earn PBIS points every day for following our school-wide expectations, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe! In January, all students earned 21,480 points. This is an average of 73 points per student for the month. Keep up the great work!

Family Engagement Opportunities and Resources!

When families are engaged in their students' education, student achievement improves as well as the morale and effectiveness of school teachers, staff, and administration. Family engagement plays an important role in the daily success of our students and school. One of the many ways you can be engaged in your students' education is by attending school sponsored events. On Thursday, March 2nd, we will be gathering for Literacy Night. You are invited to attend for fun literacy games and food! Literacy Night will be in the school cafeteria and gym from 5-7pm. Our Book Fair will also be open during this time. We hope to see you!

Staff Spotlight Staff Spotlight

Mrs. Alexander, Curriculum Coach, is in the “Spotlight” this month!

Teaching is my third profession actually. I was a paralegal for 20 years and then a small business owner for 5 years. When I sold my business, I decided to substitute teach and was hired by Springfield City Schools in 2008. That was one of the best decisions of my life! I fell in love with the profession of teaching and went back to school to earn my teaching degree at Antioch University.

I knew from that first day working with Springfield City Schools that I did not want to work for any other district. And here I am, almost 15 years later, looking forward to coming in to work each and every day. After graduating from Antioch I began my career at Springfield as an Intervention Specialist, was blessed to be a 6th grade Math/ELA teacher and am now a Curriculum Coach for the past four years.

My husband, Kevin and I have grown children and quickly growing grandchildren who also attend or have attended Springfield City Schools. Our lives are busy with family time, hockey, and mostly 4H and FFA projects.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Snyder Park community for believing in and supporting our school. We appreciate your trust in us and work very hard to live up to your expectations.

Mr. Timko, Assistant Maintenance Custodian, is also in the "Spotlight" this month!

I’ve been employed by SCSD for the past 20 years. Throughout my employment, I have worked at several schools throughout the district, however, I have been at Synder Park for the past 15 years. I really enjoy working at Synder Park Elementary because the staff and students here are great to work with.

Before being employed by SCSD, I proudly served three years of active duty in the United States Army after graduating from high school. I served in the following locations: Georgia (Fort Benning), Kansas (Fort Riley) and Germany. My highest rank was sergeant and I received an honorable discharge for my service.

Prior to working for the district, I went to Hobart Welding School, receiving a 1-year degree in Welding. I proceeded to work in several manufacturing jobs that consisted of welding, machining, and assembly work within Clark County.

In my spare time, I enjoy remodeling my house and fixing things. I enjoy spending time with my family, kids, and dogs. I love taking my dogs on long strolls at Buck Creek to enjoy nature. My kids call me a java monster because I love coffee so much. I even named my first dog Coffee. I enjoy eating pizza on the weekends ending it with ice cream for dessert.
