Attica Elementary Newsletter
February 2025

A Look Back at January:
January was a whirlwind! Between the snowy weather and illnesses, I feel like the month definitely came with some challenges!
I would like to take a moment to thank our Elementary Nurse, Miss Dispenza, our Elementary Custodians Miss Brooke and Miss Theresa, and our nighttime cleaners Jenny Bee, Emily, Jared, Elliott, and Luke. When our building was faced with a lot of germs and sick kiddo's, each of them stepped up and did everything that they could to support the students, teachers, and myself. We couldn't have done it without you!
Our theme for the month of January was PERSEVERANCE. Our goals for the month were:
- We persevere by not giving up.
- We have the courage to keep trying.
- We practice and practice to overcome difficulties.
- Together, through our perseverance, we are always winners.
Congratulations to our student's of the month for January, these students were nominated by the elementary staff for demonstrating PERSEVERANCE and CHAMP behavior in our school.
- PreK: Andrew Rudgers & Emerson Chrisler
- Kindergarten: Crew Boxler
- 1st Grade: Jaxon Tober
- 2nd Grade: Hunter Bauer
- 3rd Grade: Ruth Hess & Lane Nutty
- 4th Grade: Jessa Saxton
Character Connection:
Throughout the month of February, the Elementary school will focus on KINDNESS as our theme! We will focus on the following ideas:
- We are kind to each other and ourselves.
- We choose to do good deeds and bring happiness to others.
- We are considerate, thoughtful and friendly.
Kindness is such an important part of our school and community and something that we try to encompass in all we do! One thing that is important to focus on is not only kindness to others, but kindness to yourself as well!
I would like to share some resources and activities for families:
I would like to share an opportunity being offered by our Compact Team & PTG. The groups are working together to host a Sponge Candy Fundraiser through the amazing Henry's Chocolate. Orders are being accepted through February 10th. The money from these fundraisers helps to support all the great opportunities we are able to offer students!
Counseling Corner:
Welcome to Miss Crowley’s Counseling Corner where every month I will include information, facts and tips regarding Mental Health.
February is National Kindness Month and Attica Elementary will be celebrating Kindness all month long! I will say I think this is something already practiced at Attica all year long with our students and staff, but why not focus more on how we can improve our kindness to one another every day!
Some benefits from expressing kindness are:
Increased happiness and well-being
Reduced stress and anxiety
Improved mood and self-esteem
Enhanced social connections
Promotes generosity and compassion
Improves physical, mental and emotional health
Attached you will find a 28 day Kindness Challenge for the month of February. Work with your families to see how many of the challenges you can complete! Good luck!!

Notes from the Nurse:
FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH HERE ARE SOME PEDIATRIC DENTAL MYTHS, DEBUNKED!
1. Baby Teeth Aren't Important Since baby teeth eventually fall out, many people believe that taking care of them isn’t important. This belief, however, is false. Yes, baby teeth eventually are lost, but the last ones usually don’t come out until a child is between the ages of 10 and 12. Failing to take good care of a child’s baby teeth can lead to tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease, and these all have the potential to be painful and harm a child’s overall health.
2. Candy Is the Top Cause of Tooth Decay and Cavities Sugar in candy can play a role in tooth decay, but it’s not the only cause. Any source of carbohydrates and/or acid can fuel the bacteria that cause tooth decay.
3. Your Child Can Brush Their Own Teeth It’s good for children to learn to brush their own teeth, but parents still need to monitor their brushing to make sure they brush long enough, use proper techniques, and get all of the nooks and crannies.
4. Children Don't Need to Visit the Dentist Until They Are School-Aged Pediatric dental care is about monitoring a child’s development and administering preventative dental treatments. Children should have their first dental exam by their first birthday or when their first tooth erupts – whichever occurs first.
The Lunch Line:
February will be a short but exciting month for Blue Devils Café!
We are excited to start the month off with a Ground Hog Day celebration featuring a special chocolate pudding treat. Students will end the week with a Super Bowl inspired meal. On Valentine’s Day, we will be serving heart shaped Chicken Nuggets along with a Jello treat. Once we return from mid-winter recess, students will enjoy a Banana Bread Bear to celebrate National Banana Bread Day!
The Blue Devils Café staff love to make mealtime a nutritious and fun experience for all our students! We are so happy to see so many of our students enjoying free breakfast and lunch each day. If your student is unfamiliar with the buying process and is interested in giving it a try, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher or myself, we are happy to guide them through the process!
As a reminder, students wishing to purchase ala-carte items, such as ice cream, cookies, or chips, must have a note to spend money on their accounts. Prepayment cash or check can be sent directly to the cafeteria to avoid paying the online convenience fee!
