Monday Memo
August 25th-29th
Positive Reinforcement
Teacher recognizes student doing something great. Teacher fills out the cheerful chirp ticket including student's homeroom teacher.
Teacher sends student to office any time during the day after 8:00. (Things are pretty busy in the office before 8:00.)
Student gets a golden coin from an office staff member to get a prize from the vending machine. Student chooses which slot of the 100 chart they would like to put their golden ticket in. Student takes home prize and other half of golden ticket to show parents.
Once 100 chart is full, Mrs. Bale randomly selects 10 tickets and those students are announced on the announcements to receive a 'grand prize.'
Positive Behavior Principle #2
As you continue to solidify your routines and procedures, remember one of the graphics below. "Instruction & behavior go hand in hand." As you plan your lessons, be intentional with a balance of ritual and novelty. Have you heard the phrase "a busy child is a well behaved child"? This statement is true, but we want to be intentional with HOW our students stay busy, meaningfully busy with work that engages them. WWE teachers are actually pretty darn good at this!! Keep it up!

Focus of the Week: Managing Student Behavior 3.2
You practiced your tails off last week with routines and procedures, but remember, not all students will have mastered everything. This week continue to reinforce, practice, and redirect students to the desired behavior. Consequences should be minimal at this time as we should be intentional with how we will curb behaviors by setting students up for success. Keep in mind that redirections are best when they are non-verbal or private. Public shaming does not motivate a student to make a better choice. It creates a culture of compliance.
Here are the SOAR posters to reinforce conversations.
How will you establish, communicate and maintain clear expectations for student behavior? Anchor yourself in proficient and reflect on moving to the left.
Campus Reminders & Updates:
1. Dismissal:
We ironed out lots of kinks this week with dismissal. We will NOT make announcements this week, watch the clock and do not leave your area until the exact minute as we have LOTS of moving parts. We will continue to watch and adjust for maximum efficiency.

After you have reviewed all the LPAC module PowerPoints using the link below, please complete the Google form that will serve as your attestation of completion. (The videos are not working this year, therefore you will read through the 6 powerpoint links.) Due Thursday Sept 4th.

3. Wonder Walks: Wonder walks are a way that we get to tap in to our best resource....the teacher down the hall! Forms will be replenished in the mailroom soon. The expectation is one per 9 weeks, but you are always welcome to do more! We believe that you can learn from ANY staff member on campus, it doesn't have to be someone that teaches the same thing as you. These are short 15-20 walks into another teacher's class that can be completed when you don't have students. After you complete the wonder walk form you will tape it to the big yellow bulletin board area across from the conference room. Remember, the best ideas are begged, borrowed and stolen! It takes all of us to make this place great!
In addition, we have the Pineapple Chart beside the Wonder Walk wall. This is a way to invite people in to your class or another class to watch something you are excited about. Simply list the name, time and what the lesson/activity is.
4. Facility:
- Keep all doors in a locked state with the lockdown magnet in place. If you need a new lockdown magnet reach out to an office staff member and we can get ya one.
- Windows must not be covered so we are able to peek in for safety reasons. The covering that should be prepared for a lockdown should be black. I saw several super cute window coverings this week but know that for lockdown purposes it must be black.
-If you are missing a key to a filing cabinet or cascade cabinet I have a few in my office. Look at the lock for the number and let me know what it is and I can see if I have the matching key.
