I am pleased to share a recap of our team's recent performance at the Shadow Angel Tournament held on September 25th and September 26th. With this, our students competed with incredible dedication and determination for the first tournament of the year. Thanks to their hard work, they received outstanding awards and earned well-deserved recognition across multiple categories!
Here is a summary of our teams placement down below:
- Audrey Eyerly 1st place in Shadow- Congressional Debate
- Isaiah Bryant 1st place in Angel- Congressional Debate
- Efe Tugezin and Delia Petrov 2nd place in Angel- Policy Debate
- Nash Frederick and Briunique Toeaina 3rd place in Shadow- Public Forum Debate
- Yuma Wu 5th place in Angel- Lincoln Douglas Debate

Star Ratings
Under the Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF), new schools like South Career and Technical Academy do not receive an official star rating during the first four years because the state system requires multi-year data and established graduation cohort metrics. Key high school indicators—such as median growth percentiles, multi-year data pooling, and 4-year graduation rates—require several consecutive years of student tracking and lagging cohort reporting to meet state standards. Until a full graduating class completes its cycle and sufficient data is collected, the school remains officially designated as "Not Rated".
A message from Principal Thomas
South CTA Families,
Progress reports come out next week, and I encourage you to take a few minutes to review them with your student. These grades are a snapshot of where students stand right now. They are not final grades, and students still have time to improve.
We know that moving from middle school to high school, or taking on the expectations of the next grade level, can be challenging. Students are adjusting to new classes, building relationships, and learning how to manage greater responsibility. If your student’s progress report is not where they hoped it would be, a difficult start does not have to define their year. What matters is how they respond, and we are here to help them move forward.
Use this report as a starting point for a conversation. Celebrate what is going well, and talk through what needs attention. Are there missing assignments? Is there a concept they need help understanding? Encourage your student to speak with their teachers and make a specific plan. Asking for help and following through are important skills we want every student to develop.
Along with reviewing grades, ask your student what they are working on, what they have learned, and what they are proud of. There is growth worth recognizing as students find their place and take on new challenges.
Thank you for supporting your student and partnering with us. We want every student to know that they belong at South CTA and have people here who believe in their ability to succeed.

A note from Desert Oasis HS
Part of being in high school is going to athletic events with friends. The administration at Desert Oasis reminds you of a few things. First, if you are attending a game at Desert Oasis, you have to sit on the "guest" side because you don’t attend that school. If you are an *active* athlete at Desert Oasis, you can sit on the "home" side, but any friends you bring that are not an athlete at D-O must sit on the guest side. All students whether permitted on the home or guest side *must* have their student i-d to enter. Finally, the gates close at halftime. Those arriving after halftime will not be allowed inside. If you leave the venue, you will also not be allowed back inside.
Transportation - Parking Lot & Late Bus Info
Drop Off/Pick up zones
Please use the striped areas in each loop to drop off students. This will allow for a continuous flow throughout the parking lot. There are no u-turns allowed and drivers are expected to exit on the same street they entered on. Please keep an eye out for our staff who are walking through the parking lot after parking their vehicles. As the year goes on, we will also need to look out for student drivers.
Students will need to register their vehicles in order to park on campus. Click here to fill out the registration form.

A message from Principal Thomas
I want to start our first weekly newsletter by saying how proud we are of our students for completing their first weeklong PBL of the year.
The first week back is hard. Students are getting back into routines, teachers are learning new students, schedules are changing, and we decided to add a project on top of all of that. But the growth we saw in just a few days was pretty amazing.
Our students produced some incredible work around their driving questions, but what stood out to me even more was the process. We watched students struggle with an idea, change direction, work with people they did not know, solve problems, and ultimately create something they were proud to share. That is a big part of what PBL is about.
PBL is a process, and students are going to get better at it every time they go through it. Hopefully, you are already seeing some of that growth in your student as well. The ability to communicate, collaborate, problem-solve, take feedback, and adjust when something does not work is exactly what we want our students practicing at South CTA.
This week made me very excited about what our students are capable of and what the rest of this year can become.
Thank you to our families for helping us get everyone back into the rhythm of school, and thank you to our staff for jumping into a very busy first week and helping our students work through the process.
We are off and running.
