Second Semester Focus

Mustangs,

Welcome back, and well done on a strong start to the second semester. Our students and teachers are busy completing engaging lessons and identifying areas of needed growth. We expect our students to be well-prepared, not only for STAAR testing, but for high school and post-secondary opportunities like college, the military or the workforce. Right now, they are laying the foundation for future learning. We encourage you to talk to your child about what they are learning in school. Have them bring home their interactive notebook and explain key concepts from the lesson. This is a great way to connect with your child and help reinforce their learning.

Health Class: Opt-In Information

As part of our science and health curriculum, the ESTEEM curriculum will teach 6th and 7th grade students about the human reproductive system, abstinence, and human sexuality. Parents can preview the materials for these units at https://esteemjourney.com. A print copy of the curriculum is available at your child’s campus. Parents/Guardians may contact their school to schedule an appointment for viewing.

Parents must go to the Parent Self-Serve Portal at
https://frontline.tylerisd.org/selfserve/EntryPointHomeAction.do?parent=true
and complete the Health Opt-In Form.

Human sexuality education begins at home. You are your child’s primary educator and the most important influence on your child's health decisions. The ESTEEM lessons are designed to reinforce what you teach at home.

If you have questions about the ESTEEM curriculum, please email Hayley Skinner, Coordinator of Health and Physical Education at Hayley.Skinner@TylerISD.org.
