UPHS Marching Band Annual Viking Classic
The Union Pines Marching Vikings will be hosting the Annual Viking Classic Marching Band Competition on Saturday, October 24th, from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Union Pines High School. Admission to the event is $10.00, but free for children six and under. Several food vendors will offer a variety of food options. This major fundraiser will enable the Marching Vikings to purchase much-needed equipment, such as new uniforms, instruments, music, transportation costs, band trip expenses, and upgrades to vehicles/trailers and sound equipment for the band.
There will be 18 bands in competition from across the state, ranging from Class 1A to Class 5A. Come prepared to have a fun-filled day with great music and shows. The opening ceremonies will begin with the National Anthem at 12:30 pm, performed by the combined New Century and Crain’s Creek Middle School bands, along with U.P. Band student volunteers, and then the first competing band will perform at 12:35 pm, starting with the Class 1A bands. The awards ceremony will take place at 7:40 pm and the Union Pines Marching Vikings will perform in an exhibition preceding the awards ceremony. Trophies for the awards ceremony will be presented by the Union Pines Marching Vikings Seniors along with Moore County Schools Administrative Staff.

Moore County EMS Union Pines Base 781
Please be mindful of the areas surrounding the ambulance base. We have been asked to remind parents and students not to park or walk in areas that could block access to the ambulance base.
Parents should ensure that their vehicles do not obstruct the ambulance vehicles or prevent them from leaving the base quickly in the event of an emergency call.
Students should also avoid walking too closely to the ambulance building or in the path of the ambulance vehicles. When ambulances are dispatched, drivers may have limited visibility of students as they exit the base.
Please help us keep the area clear and ensure the safety of our students and emergency personnel. Thank you for your cooperation!

2027-28 FAFSA Now Open
The 2027-28 Free Applicatio for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. Students planning to attend postsecondary education should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to be considered for federal, state and institutional grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities and loans.
For North Carolina public high school seniors, FAFSA completion is an important next step after exploring NC College Connect, which provides eligible seniors with direct admission to colleges and universities where they already meet admissions requirements without the traditional application process. After reviewing and accepting their college offers, students should consider exploring the FAFSA to learn what financial assistance may be available to help make college more affordable. 2027-28 FAFSA application

A Friendly Reminder About Our Car Line Guidelines
Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe during drop-off and pick-up! We'd like to remind everyone of our car line guidelines to ensure the process is as smooth and quick as possible for all.
Your cooperation with these four key points makes a huge difference:
Be Prepared: Please have your child ready to exit or enter the car quickly each day. Having backpacks and other items ready to go helps keep the line moving.
Close the Gap: When you're in the car line, please pull up directly behind the car in front of you. Leaving space between vehicles causes traffic to back up onto the main road, which is a major concern.
Pull All the Way Forward: During drop-off and pick-up, please pull your vehicle all the way forward to the designated stopping point. This allows us to load and unload as many students as possible at once.
Remember to Turn Right: To keep traffic flowing smoothly on the main road, please adhere to the "turn right only" rule when exiting our lot.
By following these simple guidelines, we can all contribute to a safer and more efficient car line experience for everyone.
Thank you again for your help in protecting our students!

Cell Phone Policy
New State Cell Phone Law Passed for Schools: Prohibits students from using, displaying, or having a wireless communication device turned on during class times unless specifically authorized by a teacher for educational purposes or in the event of an emergency.
UPHS Policy
Electronics in the Classroom
To ensure a focused learning environment, the use of personal electronics during instructional time is restricted.
Cell Phones: All cell phones must be turned off and placed in the designated phone caddy at the start of class. Students are not permitted to have a cell phone at their desk or on their person.
Smartwatches and Earbuds: These devices must be put away in a bookbag or purse for the duration of the class.
In the event of an evacuation, students will be allowed to retrieve their phones from the caddy.
Using a burner phone to circumvent the classroom electronics policy will result in an immediate office referral.
Cell Phone Code of Conduct Steps
Below are the steps for violating the cell phone policy:
Cell Phone Policy : NC SL 38 limits the use of wireless communication devices during the school day. Students are expected to surrender their devices as they enter each period.
1st Offense: Teacher takes device for the period, contacts parent. Refusal will result in ISS
2nd Offense: Teacher takes device for the period, contacts parent. Refusal will result in ISS
3rd Offense: 1 period of ISS and confiscation until the end of the school day
+4th Offense: 1 day of ISS and confiscation until guardian picks up the device

Closed Campus For Lunch
Closed campus for lunch
Students and parents: we are a closed campus for lunch time. This means students are prohibited from leaving campus during their lunch break. Students who break this rule will be considered leaving campus without permission resulting in a suspension. This rule is enforced to keep your student safe.
Additionally, food delivery services are not allowed to our campus. Please read the student handbook for more information.
Bus Information
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM TRANSPORTATION>>>>>
If you did not receive a message from the Transportation Department, your child is not currently routed for bus transportation on the first day of school.
Our Transportation Department will continue processing new transportation requests and adding students to routes as quickly as possible. Families are encouraged to continue checking BusQuest for route assignments and updates.
Bus Driver Shortage May Impact Transportation Times
Moore County Schools will begin the school year with 58 bus drivers, at least 22 fewer than needed and 12 fewer than we had at the end of last school year.
This shortage may impact our ability to provide the same level of on-time transportation service that our students and families deserve. While we are committed to getting every student to school and home safely, bus arrival and departure times may vary from day to day due to driver absences, unexpected delays, route adjustments or other circumstances.
Our Transportation Department is working extremely hard to manage routes, minimize delays and provide families with updated information regarding their child's transportation.
The Moore County Board of Education recently approved increased bus driver pay, with starting pay now at $20 per hour and pay up to $24.15 per hour. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a school bus driver, we encourage you to apply today by searching "generic bus" or call the MCS Transportation Department at 910-947-5481 for more information.
More details are available in our transportation announcement.
Parking Passes
Parking passes are $75. Passes are open to Juniors and Seniors only at this time.
Student Morning and Afternoon Drop Off
Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up
For morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, please use one of our two designated locations: the front of the school or the Grady Rd. parking lot (near the bus lot).
To keep traffic moving and prevent students from being late, please pull all the way forward to the furthest point on the curb before stopping. Once you are alongside the sidewalk, students should exit the vehicle promptly.
Morning drop-off begins at 8:00 a.m. The school doors open at 8:30 a.m., allowing students to get breakfast or go to class.
If it is past 8:45 am, you must use the front entrance to drop your student off. No one is permitted to use the back parking lot after 8:45 for any reason.
FINAL EXAM DATES
Please mark your calendars for the final exam dates. It is imperative that students are present for the exam weeks. Please plan accordingly.
Fall EOC: January 15-20
Spring EOC: June 7-11
Dress Code
Please help us reinforce the Moore County Schools Dress Code policy. We will be reinforcing the dress code for our students with skirt/shorts that are too short, shirts with necks that are cut low and bottoms that are cut too high. As a reference, please refer to the diagram to learn what is acceptable and not acceptable for a professional school environment according to the Moore County Schools policies. Students who are not in dress code will be asked to change.
For specifics on the dress code, please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook.
