From the Principal's Desk

Dear Salt Creek Families,

Welcome back to another exciting school year! I am incredibly excited to welcome our preschool through second-grade students and families back to Salt Creek. After spending many years in our district in different roles, it is truly an honor to begin my first year as Principal of Salt Creek Primary School. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful school community and look forward to getting to know our students and families even better throughout the year.

Our school looks absolutely amazing following the renovations completed this summer, and I cannot wait for our students to see and enjoy the updated spaces. While the building may have a fresh look, what makes Salt Creek truly special remains the students, families, and staff who fill it each day. Our team is excited and ready to welcome our Little Vikings back, fill our hallways with smiles and laughter, and begin a fantastic year of learning, growing, and making memories together.

I look forward to seeing everyone soon. Welcome back, Little Vikings — let’s make it a great year!

Steven Hanus
Principal
Salt Creek Primary School

Knowing your child’s transportation home on the first day of school is essential. Please complete the

included orange form, “How Do You Go Home,” and return it during our Meet the Teacher Event. If you cannot attend “Meet the Teacher” please drop off or email the form to Angie Holden prior to the first day of school at aholden@saltcreek48.org.

If your child is riding the bus, please make sure that he/she is at their assigned bus stop 7-10 minutes prior to their pick-up time. An adult must be with Salt Creek students to board the bus and must be present for drop-off. Buses have a designated school drop-off location in the loop behind the school, circling the staff parking lot.

Students may arrive at school between 7:40 and 7:50 am. Instruction begins at 7:50. For parents dropping off, please park in the parent/guest lot at the school's main entrance. Park and walk your child to the front entrance area. No child should be crossing the parking lot without a parent. On a typical day, a staff member will be present at the door to greet your child as they walk to their classroom.

You may notice a new name and logo on our school buses this year! Westway Coach is now First Student. While the name on the buses has changed, families will see many of the same familiar drivers, along with a few new faces.

Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.

Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances

Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.

Bus Information Bus Information

Please be advised that there are times when our buses are running late. First Student will notify us of any time delays so we can notify parents of the status. Sometimes a situation can happen when the school office is closed. School office hours are from 7:15 am to 3:15 pm. In this case, you may contact First Student at 630-279-2720. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade students must have a parent or other adult meet them at the bus stop every day after school.

I Love U Guys ❤️ I Love U Guys ❤️

Standard Response Protocol

Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.

In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.

Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
