Principal's News

I am excited to report that I have started our Principal's Reading Club with our amazing first graders. In this exclusive club, each first grader will have the opportunity to visit my office with a book in hand and read with me. Upon completion, they will be presented with a certificate and a special prize for showcasing their remarkable reading abilities. By the end of the school year, all first graders will have the honor of being inducted into "the club". I am so proud of all our first grade readers for their outstanding efforts and enthusiasm. They rock!

PTO NEWS

Our final meeting of the year is TUESDAY MAY 14 at 7pm in the cafeteria. Please considering volunteering with the PTO for the 2024-2025 school year! We will be voting on the offices of President, Vice President, and Secretary, which will be opening at the end of this school year. Volunteers for roles such as Enrichment Coordinator and Fifth Grade Recognition Committee (current 4 th grade parents) are urgently needed. Please consider reaching out to ptomartinson@gmail.com to learn more.

$750 DOLLARS A YEAR! With over 300 families at MES, that is how much the PTO could earn if each family contributed just five cents in Box Top earnings each week! Those little donations add up! Family favorite brands like Annie’s Old El Paso, Cheerios, Lysol, and even Blue Buffalo are included. Download the app, and upload your receipts! It’s the easiest way to get “free” money donated to the PTO!

Nurse's Notes

Seasonal Allergies: With the arrival of spring, many children may experience allergies triggered by pollen. Keep an eye out for symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, and congestion.

Healthy Eating: Encourage your child to maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Packing colorful and nutritious snacks like fruits, nuts, and yogurt can help sustain their energy levels throughout the day. Don't forget to emphasize the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Sun Safety: As the weather warms up, outdoor activities become more enticing. Remind your child to apply sunscreen before heading outside to protect against harmful UV rays. Encourage the use of hats and sunglasses for added protection, especially during peak sun hours.

Importance of Sleep: Ensure your child gets adequate sleep each night to support their physical and mental development. Establish a consistent bedtime routine and limit screen time before bed to promote better sleep quality.

If your child had any of the following symptoms today, please keep them home

  • Fever over 100 degrees (must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin to return to school)

  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school)

  • Diagnosis of communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours

Any absences related to an illness that exceed 5 or more days must have a doctor’s note. If absence is due to a communicable disease or bone fracture, a doctor’s note is required the day the student returns to school and should include any restrictions.

If you have any concerns about your child's health, or illnesses that may occur during the school year, please notify the school nurse at 781-319-3985.

Remember, a healthy child is a happy and successful learner.

Library News

This week in the library we read "The Bad Seed" written by Jory John and illustrated by Pete Oswald. This amusing story helped enrich our discussion of the importance of accepting ourselves and others. We also watched previews for the upcoming book fair next week.
