Colton Hills School Bulletin
12 February 2026

Introduction by Mr J Begley, Deputy Headteacher
Welcome to this week’s Colton Hills Community School bulletin!
It has been an energising week across our school community full of inspiring experiences. With our Year 11 students sitting mock exams this week and the week after half-term, they took a timely deep dive into the neuroscience of learning with Karim from Enlighten Think. They explored powerful, high‑stimulation strategies to strengthen long‑term memory and boost revision confidence. We wish our Year 11s and 13s all the best in their mock exams.
We are also celebrating LGBT+ History Month, highlighting trailblazers in Science and Innovation, supported by vibrant displays and dedicated library resources. And as part of Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, we unveiled new wellbeing artwork reminding everyone to nurture both mind and body.
Meanwhile, Mrs Tolliday’s BTEC Sport group continue to impress and finally we'd like to say how proud of our Year 7 indoor athletics team for their fantastic performances at Aldersley Stadium.
Please also note the important health notice at the end of the bulletin! Have a wonderful half-term and thank you for your continued support.
Visitor from Enlighten Think
Last week, we had a fantastic session today with Karim from Enlighten Think, on diving deep into the neuroscience of learning. We moved past the standard "read and repeat" and explored how to actually wire information into the long-term memory through creative, high-stimulation techniques.
When students understand how their brains work —their confidence shifts. It’s not just about working harder; it’s about working with the biology of the brain. Our Year 11 students are now equipped with the tools to hack their own revision. Let’s go!
LGBT History Month
This #LGBTHistoryMonth, we’re honoring the icons of the 2026 theme: Science & Innovation in school assembly! From Antarctic explorers like Elke Mackenzie to Jemma Redmond’s 3D-printed organs, these figures remind us that there’s a place for everyone in the world of discovery.
Besides an uplifting colourful display, our library also has a dedicated display for #LGBTHistoryMonth themed books! Check it out!
STEM Workshop for Year 10 Girls
Last week, we welcomed Leanne from InComm Training for an immersive STEM workshop. Year 10 girls were challenged to build fully functional conveyor belt models in their own groups. Providing our students with these experiences is vital for bridging the gender gap in STEM and showcasing the diverse pathways available. It was a very engaging session with many questions being asked!
