Dear DCES Families,

Wow! What an amazing event Family Heritage Night was. The MPR was packed with family members young and old. The smell of traditional food filled the air, and students and families were dressed in traditional clothing. The performances and run way show was amazing as well. Thank you to our PSO, families, and community partners for putting on a memorial night. This is one of the events that makes Deer Canyon such an amazing and special community.

Speaking of community events, I am looking forward to our Monster Mash coming up on October 30th. This is sure to be a spooktacular event. Please see ways to help listed in our echos newsletter or reach out to our PSO for ways you can support.

Next Tuesday 10/20 students will be having a snack with me that won in the raffle from Feeding the Purple Envelope Winners. 1st Grade: Brooks S., Darcy H., & Neethi R. 2nd Grade: Luke K., Albie G., Kayla F. 3rd Grade: Mei C., Ryan Z., & 5th Grade: George H., Aadhya B., Luna K. This will take place during their afternoon snack recess time. I look forward to spending time with them.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Mrs. Gordon

In honor of National Sports Day on October 16th, we’re celebrating our wonderful PE teacher, Ms. Devine! New to DCES this year, she has already made such a positive impact, and our kids love her! She meets each student where they are, helping them build their athletic skills and confidence while encouraging them to do their best. We’re so lucky to have her at DCES! Please join us in thanking Ms. Devine for the care, energy, and enthusiasm she brings to our school each day.

If you noticed people wearing purple today, it’s in recognition of Rett Syndrome Awareness Month! Rett syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects girls and can impact communication, movement, and hand use.

We will also be wearing purple next Friday, October 23, to show our support for our wonderful preschool teacher, Stefania Cormier, and her daughter, Norah, who lives with Rett syndrome. By wearing purple, we hope to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and show love and support for Norah and her family. Thank you for helping our Deer Canyon community spread awareness and show our support!
