August 19th - First day of School
September 7th - No School
A brand-new school year is here, and we’re so excited to get started! Get ready for fun lessons, silly laughs, exciting projects, and lots of opportunities to make new friends!
We are excited to see all of our familiar faces and to welcome our new students and families!
🌟 As we begin the new school year, please take a few minutes to read through all of the information in this newsletter. We have a few new procedures and changes this year, along with some important reminders that will help us have a smooth and successful start.
Your partnership and communication are so important to us. Taking a few extra minutes to review these details will help make mornings, afternoons, and the entire school day run smoothly for everyone!
⏰ Morning Arrival
Doors Open: 8:20 AM
Warning Bell: 8:35 AM
Late Bell: 8:40 AM
Students should arrive with enough time to enter the building, get settled, and be ready to begin their school day.
Please remember: Any student arriving after 8:40 AM is considered late and will need an excuse.
We encourage families to plan ahead and allow extra time for morning traffic, drop-off lines, and any unexpected delays.
🚌 Afternoon Dismissal
Car Riders: Dismissed at 3:10 PM
Bus Riders: Dismissed at 3:15 PM
To help keep dismissal safe and organized, please make sure the school has accurate and up-to-date dismissal information for your child.
🚗 Changes to Your Child’s Dismissal Plan
If you are planning to pick your child up from school, please send in a note with your child or call the office before 2:30 PM.
This allows our staff enough time to communicate the change and make sure your child is dismissed safely and correctly.
Permanent Daily Pickup:
If your child is a permanent daily car rider, please send in a note letting us know. This only needs to be done once. Once we have the note on file, you will not need to send a new note every day.
If your child’s regular dismissal plan changes for any reason, please be sure to contact the office so we can update our records and ensure everyone is on the same page.
Skyward Yearly Forms
Please log into your Skyward account and complete the yearly update online form. It is very important that this is completed in order to ensure all contact information is correct.
Student Obligations
Please review your student's Skyward account for outstanding obligations.
We hope you will take advantage of our online payment options by either clicking the "make a payment" link under the "Fees & Fee Payments" tile in your Skyward family access profile or by visiting our district webstore at https://gettysburg.revtrak.net/.
Cash or checks are accepted. Make checks payable to GASD.
Attendance:
If your student is absent there are a few ways you can request the absence to be excused.
*In skyward, you are able to request an absence under the attendance tile.
- located on your dashboard
*A written note can be sent in with your student the following day, when they return to school.
(Hand to teacher, they will send them to the office)
*Parents are also able to email the secretary with absence requests, or excuses.
Email Beckie Carroll: RCARROLL@GASD-PA.ORG
It is not necessary to call into the school if your child will be absent.
A note will still be required when they return.
Also, If your child is tardy they need to have an excuse, otherwise they are considered an unexcused attendance
Eating Lunch with Students:
If you are planning to have lunch with your child during their scheduled lunch period, we kindly ask that no outside food is brought into the building.
We make this request out of consideration for all students. Some children may not have access to these types of meals, and we want to be mindful of their feelings and help maintain an inclusive environment for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Visiting our Building:
If any ADULT is going beyond the office, an ID will be required.
If you have been in any GASD building, your ID should already be in the system and may possibly not be needed to obtain a badge.
A Visitor badge WILL NEED to be worn at all times past the office doors.
We highly recommend if you plan to be in any GASD building for more than 4 hours - to get your clearances done now.
Clearances are required for field trips or any re-occuring classroom volunteering.
To obtain the proper clearances needed for our school district, please visit the GASD website for directions.
You may submit your clearances to the office once all requirements are complete.
Drop-off:
Parents should remain in their vehicles while dropping students off. If you need to unbuckle your child or get out of the car for any reason in the morning, please pull into a parking spot. This helps the line to move more effectively and safely.
Dismissal:
Parents must remain in their vehicles during dismissal. Parents are not permitted to stand at the school doors to pick up their child. Doing so creates congestion and safety concerns, especially when our bus riders get dismissed.
Walkers:
If you and your child are walkers, please ring the buzzer and come through the main office.
We appreciate your cooperation in following all of these procedures. By working together, we can ensure arrival and dismissal run smoothly and, most importantly, that our students remain safe.
Thank you for your continued support!

Title I
Title I is a federal program designed to provide financial assistance to schools with high numbers or percentages of children from low-income families. Its goal is to ensure that all students, regardless of their economic background, have access to a quality education and the necessary resources to succeed.
Schools that qualify for Title I funding receive additional support to enhance teaching and learning, close achievement gaps, and improve overall academic performance. This funding helps with tutoring, after-school programs, instructional materials, and other essential educational services.
These policies are also available on our website.
Health Room
All New Kindergartners need to have their current immunizations, physicals and dental exams up to date. Please send in a copy so we can have it on file.
Any students needing medications during the school day must have a medical permission form filled out by their physician. We have those available in the office, or they can be found on the schools website.
Fever: A child should stay home with a temperature over 100. Colds, coughs, and sore throats are common in children, and do not require that they stay home. However, if cold symptoms include a fever, or is excessive enough it is disrupting their learning, you should keep your child at home to rest.
Please feel free to call with any questions or concerns you may have.
