Update on Boundary Changes Update on Boundary Changes

First Street Elementary

At Tuesday’s Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to approve the closure of First Street Elementary and repurpose the campus to support expansion needs at Glen Edwards Middle School.

This was not an easy decision, and we understand it brings a range of emotions for many in our community. First Street has long been a place where students, staff, and families have found connection, belonging, and care. We want to acknowledge the deep impact this school has had on so many and the strong sense of community it represents.

As we move forward, our focus will be on ensuring a thoughtful and transparent transition process. The closure will not begin until at least the 2027–2028 school year, and no immediate changes will occur for students or staff. We will continue to work closely with First Street families and staff through meetings, surveys, and ongoing communication to help shape what this transition looks like and ensure that every voice is heard.

Lincoln Crossing Elementary

In the same meeting this week, the Board also voted to reassign Lincoln Crossing Elementary's attendance boundary, shifting students’ feeder pattern to Glen Edwards Middle School and Lincoln High School. Current 3rd grade students will first be impacted by this shift as they transition to middle school in the 2028-2029 school year.

We are committed to supporting families through this transition by:

  • Allowing siblings to remain together in the same feeder pattern as long as the older sibling is enrolled at the time of transition.
  • We will also prioritize intra-district transfer requests for those who wish to attend Twelve Bridges schools, pending available space.

Future Village 7 TK-8 School

We are already seeing students come out of the Village 7 community, Liberty at Lincoln. Until the Village 7 school is constructed, we are required to assign those students to existing schools. The Board voted on Tuesday to assign students residing in Village 7 to Scott M. Leaman Elementary, Glen Edwards Middle School and Lincoln High School.

Reestablishing our Facilities Needs Committee Reestablishing our Facilities Needs Committee

This fall, we reconvened our Facilities Needs Committee — a long-standing group that helps us engage staff, families, and community members around the realities of maintaining and improving our school facilities. Thank you to those who volunteered to be a part of it!

In 2021-2022, this committee was vital in updating WPUSD’s Facilities Master Plan (FMP) — our roadmap for keeping schools modern, addressing growth, and ensuring safe, effective learning environments. With new housing developments, shifting boundaries, and rising enrollment, it’s time to update the FMP again. Regular updates ensure the plan remains relevant and prioritizes the district’s most critical facility needs.

This year, our committee includes more than 80 community members, staff, and administrators who are gaining insight into school facility challenges in California and providing valuable feedback on our priorities as we move into another phase of growth..

SitelogiQ Lighting Replacement Program SitelogiQ Lighting Replacement Program

Work is underway to replace more than 6,400 non-LED lights across the district with energy-efficient LED bulbs and fixtures. This project touches nearly every space in our schools, including classrooms, multipurpose rooms, libraries, gyms, offices, exterior areas, and parking lots. This project is part of our larger energy savings project, which will also include solar installation at many of our campuses.

This month, work has been completed at Foskett Ranch Elementary, Glen Edwards Middle School, and Lincoln Crossing Elementary. SitelogiQ began work at Lincoln High School and will continue next at Sheridan Elementary School.

Changes Coming to ParentSquare Text Messages Changes Coming to ParentSquare Text Messages

Coming Soon!

ParentSquare is rolling out a new way to send text messages: instead of using a 5-digit short code, most messages will soon come from 10-digit local phone numbers. This change will help messages feel more personal and stay better organized in your text messaging app.

What’s changing?

Previously, all ParentSquare messages came from the same 5-digit number. With this update, you’ll receive texts from regular 10-digit phone numbers, depending on the type of message:

  • Direct Messages: One number for each conversation with a teacher or staff member
  • Classroom & Group Posts: One number for all classes and groups per school
  • School-wide Posts: One number per school
  • Alerts, Digests, District-wide Posts and District Group Messages: The same 5-digit number that you've always seen

No action needed—just keep an eye out for those first-time messages!

You will get a short message the first time each number is used to help you save it in your contacts.

Learn more and see examples: Example of Changes to ParentSquare Text Messages

What should I do?

When you receive a message from one of these new 10-digit numbers, save it to your contacts. Here are some suggestions:

  • Save a teacher’s number as: Ms. Davis - 4th Grade
  • Save classroom/group posts as: Lincoln Elementary Classes
  • Save school posts number as: Lincoln Elementary Updates

Below are examples using sample schools (not WPUSD schools).
